For similar money you could go to any number of boutique steel bike mfg's and get a custom sized steel bike, that would be infinitely cooler than any Trek would ever be. Support those little guys out there making rad stuff

Talking to a inside guy at my shop about the new Shimano Groups. Their will be Deore / SLX / XT / XTR Wireless Sets at the beginning of 2025. They are not like the Road Groups with a wire to Accu System. Cassettes will be 9-45 and 10-51. he said their will be NO new Saint Group! I've been an advocate for steep jumps instead of long and lows for a while due to beginner behavior and injury chances. Build a flow trail with decent size jumps towards the end at moderate speed and they will feel confident enough to do them, as the lips are shallow and you just ride off them at trail speed, but the speeds are high enough a crash causes serious injuries. Build a jump trail with steep lips, speed is "lost" due to traveling up more (I know its not exactly like this) and crash speeds will be lower, but most...

The drawback of more capable modern bikes is that when something goes wrong it happens at higher speed. As speed goes up, the severity of injuries goes up too. For what it's worth, my worst injuries in the last couple of years have been at slow speeds, but narrowly avoided kissing a tree at high speed too.

For the current era of bikes where manufacturers will use the same front triangle (or full frame, just different shock) for a shorter and longer travel version, I think it makes more sense to buy the long travel version. If you're buying a 140mm travel bike that weighs the same as the 160mm travel bike, why not go 160mm. Now, if the 140mm travel bike is built from the start as 140mm, then it would absolutely be a completely different riding experience for sure

I've been rocking specialized tires lately. Purgatory t9 grid trail, ground control grid t7 on the hardtail; butcher t9 grid trail, eliminator t7/t9 grid gravity on the trail bike, and cannibal t9 grid gravity front and rear on the enduro/park bike. Re: Specialized tires, I have been running them frequently last 2 years due to the local Maxxis gouge + screw pricing structure, and because they go on sale more often. I really like Butcher T9 Trail front + Eliminator T7/9 Gravity rear for everyday enduro trail riding and racing. Eliminator is the tire I always wanted the Dissector to be. It corners great (same knobs as Butcher), rolls a fair bit faster than Butcher/DHF clones, and lasts a fair bit longer than Dissector. Cannibals are best when pushed hard. Zink Bikes is dropping a new 27.5” model, I have no clue on geo and specs but this is what I’ve gleamed from ocbikeworks on Insta so far. “150 travel and it’s possible to run 26” in the back, but all the material shared with us suggests it’s meant for 27.5 without any mods. $1650 retail for the frame.” And like all shops they hook up the discount on parts to build it up. Grid Trail is probably equivalent to EXO+ maybe a little more robust but not quite a DD. Grid Trail front with a Grid Gravity rear is excellent, and they make tread/compounds where you can do that.
