Regarding wire bead and tubeless, it could actually be an advantage for bike park riding and general hooning. I had an interesting conversation with Pierre-Edoard Ferry about tire development last summer because he was one of the riders involved in developing Michelin's new DH tire line in 2016-ish, including the DH22 and DH34. I was curious why they went with wire beads on the new tires instead of folding. TLDR - I have been riding these pedals since the start of summer. They are my new favorite pedals, dethroning my previous favorite the Deity Deftrap. Imo the "wave" concept seems like a gimmick and doesnt seem to work the way they intended, I didnt notice my heels dropping unless I did it on purpose. Instead, the wave design achieves something else; it provides great grip that I can rely on while pounding through rough chunky terrain, but still allows me to re-adjust foot position on the fly - something i struggled with on my Deftraps. Raleigh going under as part of this is a real kick in the teeth. It’s a big part of British industrial and cycling history, it was once the biggest bike company in the world with a huge footprint in Nottingham. Growing up everyone wanted a Raleigh bike for Christmas. I do hope they can find someone to take it on, the name holds real cultural significance.

I was in the garage doing some work to one of my bikes over the weekend and watching old mtb movies... I had the thought of going through a few of these and re-watching them as a community and sharing things we noticed/appreciated... thus the idea for this thread. Maybe I'm nostalgic for a more simple time in mountain biking and mountain bike culture or maybe I'm subconsciously lamenting the barrage of short form content that evaporates in the blink of an eye. Either way, I feel like this is may be a fun way to re-live and re-discover these...

Well it's nice for people like me that still have a 27,5 front wheel on their bike. And I guess the aftermarket sales for tires must be a considerable market since at some point every bike that gets ridden needs new tires. Definitely more so than forks etc.

I've been waiting on Session frame for warranty replacement since December 2025. Word is that the Session frames were embroiled in this whole forced labour dispute and are therefore stuck sitting in a shipping container in port somewhere. First, Trek said they'd deliver the replacement session in February Then that was delayed to May. Then that was delayed to November. Then that was delayed until "Sometime in 2027".... Needless to say, this was pretty ridiculous, so they ended up giving me a Marlin+ e-bike instead of the Session frame. And I'm now in the market for a new DH frame.

I know you're not going to want to hear this, but: On these SPD test rides, have you tried thinking about something other than your feet? If you focus on your feet while you're in clips, they're going to feel weird if you're used to flats, and weird is likely going to progress to bad and then terrible the more you think about it. I remember my first few rides on clips, coming from flat pedals. Those first few rides were on Shimano SPD pedals that felt icy exactly like you describe. But then, over next few weeks, I did...

So, I actually fill out those customer surveys that SRAM sends out after you register products. A few weeks ago, I got one related to ebikes. After I filled it out, they reached out (presumably also to other people) to see if I'd do a research interview. I said yes in hopes to read between the lines on what stuff they're considering. Based on the questions they asked, I'd say they're considering various motor options. Everything seems to be on the table from conventional to eCVT. Any questions about the DHX or updated DH casing let me know, both were my projects. In general the DHX does everything our current dry tires do, but has more capability for high load high speed conditions. I designed it to excel in the bike park oriented World Cup tracks but still not give up performance in soft or natural sections compared to current dry tires. Ideally I wanted to simply the racers’ tire choice: if it’s dry and fast- DHX, if it’s soft or mixed- HR3, if it’s wet- mud spike. The updated DH casing is pretty well explained...
