I installed hardwired Di2 on to my Bosch Wild with 11 speed Linkglide. I removed a SRAM 11 speed so the weight gain was significant which in my head bummed me out, although it's the exact same weight as GX T-Type. It’s weird - sram can release an ecosystem of groups with proprietary cassettes, derailleurs, chains, rings, that have stratospheric prices and persistent issues (speed, shift calibration limitations, QC issues, cassettes that need to be installed multiple times to settle, battery pins corroding etc etc), plus compromises they try and correct release to release. Maybe that’s ok, it’s up to the rider. At the same time, Shimano releases a new di2 ecosystem that uses their existing(and awesome) cassettes, chains, rings, has the industry leading shifter for ergonomics. If you're renting a DH bike, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND shopping around for a rental bike that has an air shock. One of the worst days of bike riding in my life was renting my dream DH bike in Whistler and being stuck on the wrong rear spring rate. I have both a singlespeed and Zerode Katipo with 12spd analog Pinion gearbox. Constant drive lines FTW. Never having to worry about maintaining, hearing or shearing off a derailleur is far worth any drag compromise. Any noticeable "drag" is on gears higher than 6-7, plus shifting from say 5th to 2nd gear is instant, not a massive clunky chain moving event. That said I don't see current gearboxes being relevant for anything less than enduro or heavy duty trail bike applications. /2c

I can't think of one company in the bike industry that, in two years, has launched its first-generation product, sold out, released two new drive units, dropped a new bike, and teased a gearbox.
