This is a clear cut DQ. You can't pick and chose when to apply rules and he clearly was on the left side of the tape.

It’s a question of momentum. Big travel is great for carrying speed, ie if you’re going down a steep hill covered in roots, rocks, and holes that would otherwise slow you down. In contrast, short travel helps you build speed on flat trails, uphills, pump bumps, or any situation where you need to pump the bike or pedal to create speed. This is why downhill bikes feel like such a pig on smooth flow trails and why short travel bikes are slower on gnarly descents. Seems to me that EWS races feature a mix of both types of terrain in...

Seems to be where things are heading geometry wise alright, glad he specifically calls out low BBs, that's one area where a lot of bikes have already gone too low.

love how he didn't actually say it was a 27.5 wheel in the rear, keeping it under wraps apparently.

KOPS probably came from the 70's or 80's and never had any biomechanical basis, and by the early 2000s road bike fit was moving away from it because not only does it have no biomechanical basis, it doesn't consider an individual's body proportions (so for women, who tend to have longer legs/shorter torso, it's really wack) I'd love to test something but probably unlikely. I got kids, work odd hours, so I basically just ride by myself when I can squeeze in time. Makes this even more challenging, eh?

Where the hell does this myth of knees over toes come from and how the hell is it still active??? What about if you were riding a reverse recumbent bike? The knee would in front of the toes there! Look at the system. If you rotate the rider (the complete rider) around an axis, what changes? Why would going over the imaginary line of knees over the toes mean anything? It's a circumstantial myth that has no physiological and physical basis. It's a relic of old geometries, where this, coincidentally, might have had some merit. But for completely different reasons...

If your headset is getting loose, that is your stem bolts. It's called a "preload" for a reason. Final load & tension on the headset is handled by the stem.

Very cool products here. Definitely looking at the single speed kit to replace a dying Rohloff DH. Had been considering the SB1 stuff but maaaan that’s expensive stuff to huck bike parks with. Also think the steerer clamp would make life so easy when there’s 4 bikes in the van.

yep the old status was a free ride weapon back in the day, bring back the Big Hit!!! I had one of those enduro evo's with the 180mm boxxers, Sort of before it's time in a way. If it was 1260mm wheelbase, mullet, 12 speed with dropper people would be losing their shit.

What dropper/saddle are you using? I have a one up with a ergon saddle and can get 40mm in front or behind the clamps. Similar with a reverb and a giant contact dropper. some saddle combos might reduce that fractionally but that is still a lot of adjustment? I have a p3 size privateer, with the saddle back 25mm on the rails I have the same saddle to bars as on my large strive which had the saddle pushed forward 25mm. The position does feel a bit different as you are more central over the BB.

I was faster on 29 until I went back to being a pilot rather than a passenger. At 5'8" I can be way faster downhill on an XL 29er until I have to turn. Those things are like toboggans! Hold on and ride it down. Now I like to be in total control and smaller wheels gives me that control. I find i have way more traction on flat corners with the smaller wheels. I think people mistake the passenger feeling that the ton of BB drop on 29ers gives for traction. Yeah yeah, everyone races 29ers. I think that's...

I'm also 5'10 and don't like 29ers. I could do a mullet set up for sure, but some of us like to get low and squash stuff without buzzing our ass.
