Thanks for all the feedback guys, I think after trying the smuggler tomorrow I will make the decision. I'm leaning towards the smuggler though...

I will admit that eagle is not objectively better than the shimano XT setup, I just feel that way from my short time spend using it thus far. However, I will say that I feel the transition between gears is much smoother on the eagle compared to shimano. ... more »

Thanks for the insight, I am really looking to find a bike to help me progress skill wise as well. Yours is the same build that I want to pick up too! I'm just curious about the brakes, I haven't ridden sram/avid brakes in a while....any consistency ... more »

I agree with your comment about not caring what material it is made out of, I have ridden both AL and Carbon back to back and I would be fine with either these days. As far as weight goes, I"m not going to be an XC racer in the near future but I feel ... more »

Thanks for the feedback guys, I am back in Bellingham and believe I will take a smuggler out for a demo and see whats what. After testing the patrol the other day I realized that the weight doesn't really matter so much when you have an eagle setup!! ... more »

Anyone have any thoughts on these bikes? I'm in the market for a versatile 29er full suspension bike since I'm not sure where I will be living in the near future. These 2 are all that I really want to shell out money for at the moment. In short: Transition ... more »

Do they not know that second impact syndrome is deadly? and that there is no helmet ever made that can prevent a concussion?

Definite concussion - really shouldn't race - really shouldn't be *allowed to make the decision* to race or not. Shame on the UCI for not having concussion protocols in place. They can have rules for team jerseys and all the other stuff, but don't have one to cover basic...more

Thanks for the heads up man, looks like I am for sure getting this bike then. I have always loved shimano's durability on the one hand but always love how the Sram stuff works on the other hand. I guess the only things left to get for this thing would a new rear tire, and maybe some new brakes (TRP).

Also, I wonder how the drivetrain compares to the YT jeffsy 27 since they decided to go with an 11 speed, E13 wide range cassette/Shimano set up compared to the Sram 12 speed eagle setup. Is there a performance or weight penalty/advantage with one vs the other??

That settles it, this is my next bike 100% There is still $$ left over for new TRP brakes and a decent seat post remote lever.

Neko kicked the shit out of all of them combined. He landed about 2 inches in front of the gnarliest rock on the whole garden and came out with more speed than any of them!

Great review guys, I also like the video format better. Saves my tired eyes from having to read all that stuff hahaha. It did change my opinion on the Trek, so thanks. Even though I am in the market for a long travel 29er like the ones you are testing, I am still gonna get the Capra 29 AL comp, you just can't beat that price right!

I'd get the remedy too, I'm just not feeling 29ers, must be the playfulness of a smaller wheel that has me hooked.

Muddy did have a pretty bad year, sucks when you finally get on a factory team and then your results are worse than the year before. I guess sometimes it better to be the underdog
