Compression damping is ultimately matched to spring rate and spring rate is determined by weight and leverage. The linkage determines the leverage curve of that and as we both know there are endless possibilities there. There are good sized tuning windows for more/less compression damping vs spring options. But we see bike companies delivering special shock tunes that are way outside those and make no sense at all. On the extreme end we had a big customer on a Specialized Levo that needed 5 times more compression damping than his bike had stock. You're talking 120kg rider on a shock...

A linkage in and of itself cannot. A linkage can 100% make a set up that is more supportive not sit too high in travel and not feel overly harsh towards top of travel. If someone were to not need that level out of support out of the shock, they certainly could run less compression damping and not be wrong. It’s not like the leverage curve is pushing the spring rate so high that rebound can’t be tuned to match. At the end of the day I wouldn’t necessarily say a manufacturers recommended tune for a bike is the end...

I ran one of those square tubes for 5 years after also having had the original javelin for a few. Loved turners back in the day. Top photo is the orginal build, bottom photo is after turner re welded it due to a crack after 4 years of owning it, they even paid shipping from Northern Ireland and back, they had the best customer service. Pretty sure in the bottom photo I had already done the drill an extra bolt hole mod at the back to lower and slacken it.

My thinking was the less intense / hard braking on the front (more feathering) coupled with greater heat absorption of the metal pads & thicker rotor would mess with the compound transfer to the rotor and slow down the natural burn off of the surface of the pads. Then once it glazes it would just make the problem worse. I did swap rotors & pads between the front wheel of ebike & rear of pedal bike last night and will give it a shot. Maybe you're right regarding Mr. Newton. I just know that most people ride their mountain bikes downhill and when you do that, your weight tends to shift back causing the rear brake to heat up quicker than the front. For what it's worth I have used the TRP 2.3 race rotors with ceramic pads and they worked great. No noise and superb braking. I'm not here to argue scientific theories, just sharing real world experience.
