Curious if a Rupert Murdoch type of mentality of not being able to let go (and pushing the previous 2 CEO'S out) or a Disney situation where Bob Eiger was drafted back in because Chapek cooked the company?

I think he's not happy with the pace of product development on the e-bike side. Leadership starts at the top, and perhaps Armin Landgraf wasn't pushing things along hard enough. There were rumours on here that Synyard sent an angry newsletter amongst the exec group at Specialized wondering what they've been up to in light of the Avinox takeover.

It must have been a rough day when the Levo rollout (years in the making) was quickly made irrelevant by the Avinox M2. Didn't they have to slash prices by like 40% or something?
They already outsource their motors, just give in and go with Avinox. Do something unique with it like Orbea.
Throw that on an updated Kenevo based on the latest Demo and let the good times roll.

Idk, it's not like the current S motor is weak. Heavy, yes, but swap it out for an avinox motor and the new turbo levo still isn't really a compelling buy...
I wonder if the rumors are true that the Avinox motor was developed with Specialized and then they backed out at the end and stuck with the Brose? If so, they definitely left a door open for the rest of the industry to jump in..

SL motor was developed by MAHLE and industrialised, but the assembly line was shipped overseas and is managed by... Specialized? Not MAHLE anyway.
Their full power motor is very openly Brose. Or should that be Yamaha now? Brose had a very open policy regarding branding and housing adaptations, but the only customers I heard of (I don't follow the scene too closely) were Specialized and Rotwild.

I think the small/sleek looks of the Avinox motor and battery are way overlooked by us in forums and the media because of the power numbers. There’s some seriously good looking Avinox bikes out there and sitting them next to Spesh and Bosch bikes makes those bikes just look old. Full power but looks like a light eeb/analog bike is where Spesh needs to go in order to be able to charge their astronomical prices again.

Which is why I said they need a new frame as well.

go read the gazillion pages on the first waiting for the levo 4 bike thread over at emtbforums. someone claimed there that initially they developed something with mahle first, but then went with brose. mahle then released the m40 on their own

Brose also makes the Sram motor, and didn't they make the rocky mountain motor?

It's clear there is room in the market for alternatives to Avinox, for example, by having a brand that provides any ability whatsoever to actually purchase one of their bikes, something Avinox is currently missing in the North American market.
Do you think it's wise for Specialized to look at all the brands that are now a full season behind on product and think "hmm, I'd like a piece of that!"

I'm sure Specialized would be beyond thrilled if they sold out of any bike right now.

Commencal have the new M2S bikes in stock in limited sizes here in Canada, got passed by two of them on the climb this week, also got passed by one of the new Teewings but 99% sure it was the distributor guy on one of his demo bikes.

No, Rocky Mountain was(is) Dyname.
