Today I had first ride on HR3 with new DH casing and does exactly what is says. I dropped psi by 3 to 20 and eventually to about 18 psi. It was really soft but still supporting with 18 psi. Like it so far. And the weight penalty is only 40 g compare with old casing so not bad as well. My weight is 75kg naked.

Sometimes I feel crazy, in that I dislike the assegai, but everyone seems to love it. I started with dhf's, and always liked the sharp cornering character of them. The assegai felt vague, and more like it smears itself across the top of everything instead of biting in. I much prefer the kryptotals, high roller 3, and most recently the dhx.

I have a bullit. Put 4 rides into the float x performance. It was fine but got overwhelmed when things got fast and rough. I like a firm compression tune and that shock couldn't hang at speed. Put in an sv8. Yea, no more problems there. I did go a bit lighter on the spring than push'S calculator recommended. I think the sv8 is a great choice for the bullit if you go fast on rough trails.

I've tried MM trail pro ultrasoft and TC trail pro ultrasoft. I like em both. For loose over hard conditions (SW CO, desert like conditions) I felt like the MM was a little squirmy on the tall knobs. When there is something for those tall knobs to dig into a little, it hooks up very well for cornering and braking. I can see why it is a very popular tire because it is a pretty good all arounder and covers a wide range of dirt types well but really shines for me on the natural terrain where there is a...

I guess you kind of proved my point. When talking about tires in a nerds thread and describing characteristics you like or dislike given a tire construction, it is useful to use shared vernacular so that it is less confusing which type of tire is being referred to.

Just a side note... why do folks refer to radials but not bias-ply when distinguishing between the two tire type constructions? Non radial tires are bias-ply, but nobody ever refers to them as that. I've read them in this thread as "normal", "diagonal", etc. and just don't understand why there is confusion. Not to be overly pedantic, but this is...

I got the DHRII mounted up today and got 2 laps on it. The trail I ride is about a 4.5 mile forest road climb and a 3 mile 1500ft descent. We had a pretty good rain storm over the weekend and the trail was absolute hero dirt today. The first thing I noticed after mounting the tire was how much smaller and further apart the side lugs are on the DHR2 versus the DHX. I’ve been running 24-27 on the DHX combo and haven’t pinged a rim yet so that’s the pressure I ran today. I didn’t notice a...

Closing thoughts on the new maxx Terra v2. Dh season is over for me now, and I’ve been riding the DHR2 since it opened. FWIW, this is on a DH bike at race pace for the season. Just about 160 miles and just under 100k feet of descending. Still has tons of breaking grip, can’t tell the difference in nor-cal dirt from maxx grip, but well over 2x the life, if not more. Casing is spent and the tire got a sidewall slice at the top of the casing insert on the last run, so she’s pretty cooked, otherwise would...

I've used a Giant Control Tower HP/HV for close to a decade and never had a problem setting a tubeless bead. Ditched my charger/inflator because of it. Not all High-Volume pumps are created equal. Prepare your jokes... The Control Tower's handle shaft is the maximum allowable diameter to fit into the main shaft, so you get nearly double the volume. Any HV pump that has a narrow handle shaft, like most pumps, isn't really an HV. I know Feedback Sports makes a HV pump with a wide diameter handle shaft. I'm sure there are others. You just need to... check...

To be fair the Schwalbe Gravity Pro is also quite heavy at 1400g. I'd say a 130g increase for what basically amounts to the equivalent of an insert seems like a fair trade off. It's also not apples to apples given the DHX is quite knobby so some of the weight likely comes from the tread design as well.

I got my hands on a DHX and DHR2, both in the New DH casing, and have some first ride thoughts. Two words: holy shit! The gist of it is, the feel of this casing is what I wanted from radial but couldn't get. I weigh ~150 lbs, and am on a ~49 lb ebike, riding totally dry and blown out trails about an hour north of Santa Cruz. I started with lower pressure than what I run with DH, but kind of hedging a bit - 18 front, 20 rear. With old Maxxis DH or Conti, I usually run...
