V1 Forbidden Druid, had some small bearings that would seize and creak. Changed them out, still noise. Checked/changed some other bearings, still creak. Rebuilt pedals, still creak. Changed bb, still creak. It was a bunch of dust and dirt packed around the idler bearing. A few weeks of headache.

Two more for the list. Had a front-end clunk for a while. Spent an afternoon taking apart the headset, checking tightness, re-assembling, trying different things, all to no effect — grab the front brake, rock the handlebars back and forth, still a clunk. Gave up, went for a ride, realized halfway down the hill that my water bottle cage was loose. Stopped on the trail, tightened that up, no more clunk. Had a bottom bracket clunk for a while. Only really felt it on smooth climbs, but I could feel a clunk on each pedal stroke. Spent an afternoon taking...

Yeah, can't agree with that at all. I work on these things all the time and GX quality is wayyyy lower than XT in my experience. I'll add that the new Shimano stuff is totally comparable to Transmission, which is just the latest iteration of SRAM's wireless drivetrain. Curious why you think it isn't. Because it doesn't require a proprietary frame standard to attach the derailleur?

I'm a bit late to the party here, and not coaching elite Dh racers, though some of my former riders have gone on to race at that level... One of the big reasons for higher bar height/stack becoming popular is overall speeds have increased. Most riders adapt to a setup and run it mostly the same, but change minor details for each track. Most of them live/train in steep fast areas, where the high stack is hugely advantageous. It may not be helpful on the motorway at Ft.bill, but they aren't going to change their entire riding style for one...

I'm really excited for the XTR embargo to be over so I can get more miles in on the new not-a-clutch clutch mechanism on my primary bike. Very curious how it will affect suspension feel to have spring force instead of friction controlling the cage on my long travel bike with relatively high anti-squat.

Love the Deftraps. Have them on all my bikes now. Cheap, tons of grip, fit my squatch size feet, easily replaceable pins and I haven’t had an issue with any pair yet. Cant see going back to aluminum flats ever again.

You wanted to talk about how far camera lenses have come in regards to chromatic aberration?

I just want to say, I have never been able "whip around" my bike better than when I put on the longer 460 chainstays. Turns out, when you increase front end grip, you can then drift the rear end in an extremely controlled fashion. My bike turns tighter than it did before, and I think it all has to do with front end confidence. I know I can turn a tighter radius because the front end is not going to wash. I often feel like the people who cannot fathom riding longer chainstays are the same ones who bemoaned the...

Watched the video and I’m still unimpressed with the answer. Before posting here I read the other site’s article and didn’t like their answer either, especially after reading about chain slap being an issue. My question was not about shimanos official line. I’m curious what we think about their decision, and if we believe their explanation (or if their explanation...

I’ll be honest with you: your writing style makes it very hard to understand what you’re saying, so I don’t have much in the way of a specific response. But my current bike has 525mm chainstays and a 460mm reach and it rips. I’ve taken it on pump tracks, dual slalom tracks, jump trails, flow trails, punchy rolling XC trails, sketchy loose fall line trails, big ass rock gardens, fast open trails, tight techy trails, poached hiking trails, and paved bike paths. It’s felt better everywhere than any other bike I’ve ridden since I started riding as a kid in...

Maybe I missed it on here: did anyone catch the spec announcement that MY26 Stumpjumpers will now be sold as stumpjumper evos with a 160 mm fork and piggies back genie shock? If nothing else it seems like an interesting branding move so close to the release of the 15
