Someone needs to design a Tuned Mass Damper / MultiTool combo. Where the tool takes place of the mass inside :D

Wild guess here that nobody has made yet....but maybe it's a TMD?

I am a slightly obsessed shade tree bike wrench... Wrenching on my bikes fills a void that is created from quitting racing/wrenching on motos, rc cars, spec miata and performance street cars. I go looking for things to service/maintain on my bikes as working with my hands is my escape from work. My bikes are 99.9% dialed and I am always over prepared. That being said, there's some dumb shit that I have done, and continue to do repeatedly. -I frequently forget to tighten my brake caliper bolts after doing fork service or bleeding the brakes. I can't tell you...

Damaging Torx bolt heads by blindly shoving Allen wrenches in them, or my torx wrenches by blindly using them on Allen bolts. You'd think I'd have learned by now. Or I just need to throw out all the Torx bolts. The day I realised I could use a regular one-way torque wrench on a left hand thread simply by coming at the fastener from the other side using an extension bar was a special day. I felt special in many ways.

last year i had a slight clicking noise on my old sb150 while pedaling up and it drove me crazy, cranks were greased so i thought it must be that PF BB and i just let it be since the bearings still ran smoothly. then in september i switched to a new sb160 frame and on the first ride that clicking was back… turns out it was the pedal thread that needed cleaning and some grease.

V1 Forbidden Druid, had some small bearings that would seize and creak. Changed them out, still noise. Checked/changed some other bearings, still creak. Rebuilt pedals, still creak. Changed bb, still creak. It was a bunch of dust and dirt packed around the idler bearing. A few weeks of headache.

Yeah, can't agree with that at all. I work on these things all the time and GX quality is wayyyy lower than XT in my experience. I'll add that the new Shimano stuff is totally comparable to Transmission, which is just the latest iteration of SRAM's wireless drivetrain. Curious why you think it isn't. Because it doesn't require a proprietary frame standard to attach the derailleur?

I'm a bit late to the party here, and not coaching elite Dh racers, though some of my former riders have gone on to race at that level... One of the big reasons for higher bar height/stack becoming popular is overall speeds have increased. Most riders adapt to a setup and run it mostly the same, but change minor details for each track. Most of them live/train in steep fast areas, where the high stack is hugely advantageous. It may not be helpful on the motorway at Ft.bill, but they aren't going to change their entire riding style for one...

I'm really excited for the XTR embargo to be over so I can get more miles in on the new not-a-clutch clutch mechanism on my primary bike. Very curious how it will affect suspension feel to have spring force instead of friction controlling the cage on my long travel bike with relatively high anti-squat.

Love the Deftraps. Have them on all my bikes now. Cheap, tons of grip, fit my squatch size feet, easily replaceable pins and I haven’t had an issue with any pair yet. Cant see going back to aluminum flats ever again.

You wanted to talk about how far camera lenses have come in regards to chromatic aberration?

I just want to say, I have never been able "whip around" my bike better than when I put on the longer 460 chainstays. Turns out, when you increase front end grip, you can then drift the rear end in an extremely controlled fashion. My bike turns tighter than it did before, and I think it all has to do with front end confidence. I know I can turn a tighter radius because the front end is not going to wash. I often feel like the people who cannot fathom riding longer chainstays are the same ones who bemoaned the...
