4/7/2025 7:28am Considering the market opened down 6% I feel its probably a good idea for me to release this little app. Its a good place to watch how the publicly traded companies in the bike, outdoor, powersports or "outdoor adjacent" space are performing through this shit show. Few thoughts... URL: www.otherhours.com -The name isn't great. I just had that domain so I used it. -All quotes are delayed; I am using the Yahoo Finance dataset which isn't great (but is free). I'm also using FRED for the CPI/yield stuff. I would not rely on this to trade or anything, but it...

4/4/2025 11:14am Via the EC Discord, online retailers are already pop-up warning US buyers that tariffs and customs fees will likely impact the final price of bike goods. Jeff- for your app, might be cool to add a bit of a market tracker. Choose some basic component of complete bikes as benchmarks and then follow pricing changes overtime. I just bought some...

4/4/2025 11:09am Hi y'all, Longtime reader, though I rarely post. Some context I run a small non-bike company in Sheridan, WY. We make a ton in house, import a little, and outsource a bunch to other companies in the US. We do about 40% of our sales in Canada. These tariffs will put the brakes on the entire economy. My business is well positioned to make 100% of our product in the US, which would seemingly be a boon for us. But who is going to be able to buy it? Will our customers in Canada want to buy our products at...

4/4/2025 11:07am 100% Housing security (and food security) creates healthy and productive societies. Every crime statistic goes down when people can afford a place to live. Want innovation today? Go ten years in the past and feed and nurture the brains and bodies of the newest thinkers. The second best time to plant a tree is today.

4/3/2025 2:59pm This goes without saying, but I do not like what this administration is doing with tariffs. I won’t repeat in detail what many of you have already nailed but to summarize: these policies are destabilizing, costly, inflationary, and may very well lead to higher interest rates (all very bad for a very global bike industry). And for what? I’ve yet to see a compelling argument, even a theoretical, about the long-term upside. For fun, I'll give you my "best case" scenario, but this isn't so much what I think will happen, just what could hapen. Oh, and in case nobody...

4/3/2025 8:58am Glad I stocked up on bikes and parts for cheap in the past couple years. Truck Fonald Dump and the idiotic sycophants who still support him. This is beyond stupid and if you don't realize that by now, you never will, even as you're struggling to feed your own children.

4/2/2025 3:58pm I bet this new Norco rides really well. But that aside, thanks what I hate about ebikes- suspension no longer matters, geometry, compliance, none of it matters anymore. The only thing that really matters is the powertrain and the brakes. People fret over things like the quality of the display, whether you can add overdrive to your older motor via a firmware update, etc rather than how the bike rides. Crappy climbing geometry doesn't matter since you can pedal seated with the dropper down. Descending geometry is less critical because the much lower CoG a motor+battery gives you makes up...

4/1/2025 12:07pm I think it’s fair game to question Jesse. I’m no pro mountain biker but from my own professional experience I’d say it’s pretty uncommon to know exactly what kind of a deal the guy at the desk next to you is getting. That being said Jesse is a World Cup winner in the sport that we all love and frankly we’re lucky to have him here. Show the dude some respect

3/28/2025 5:12pm Thanks! I assume we will know more next week. Will be interesting to learn the impact of this in some of the biggest Brose partners (like Specialized or Sram) but also in the bicycle-shared services that choose to equip their motors, since some of them may have long term contracts still in place
