7/8/2026 12:22am The Saint levers sit very far from the grip, even with the reach adjustment fully closed. For those with small hands—or anyone who prefers the levers closer to the grips—the XTRs work much better.

1 day ago Will it be dumb to ask what is the reason not to use Saint levers in the first place? Whats the diference between them and any other servowave shimano lever?

7/6/2026 11:35pm Everybody serving the gearbox coolaid and how ebikes are getting them and how that will trickle down to pedal bikes, remember that the Avinox and Gaobao or whatever they are called have a CVT gearbox using two electric motors. That kind of a "gearbox" (integrated variable transmission to be precise) is wholly incompatible with bikes that do not have batteries. The only viable gearbox option covering both ebikes and bikes is the Pinion which is, functionally (speaking in volumes), non existent in both camps. As @Shinook and @Uncle Cliffy have said, the future has been promised for years now with...

7/2/2026 12:43pm Question for the peanut gallery, inspired by this Nick Bentley pic from the other site- it seems like every Shimano team is running an Ochain on the old Saint M820/825 cranks, despite the fact that those cranks come from the factory with a very permanently installed 104 BCD spider. How do we think they're doing this? Do you think Shimano corporate is modifying the cranks for the teams, or are all the teams doing a garage bodge job like this?

7/2/2026 12:07am As though the the gearbox wasn't also invented in the 1800s... Feel free to hate the lightest, simplest, most serviceable, most efficient method of changing gears on a bicycle that humanity has invented so far, but the rest of us will accept derailleurs where they make sense.

6/15/2026 5:33am D eore has long been Shimano’s entry-point groupset. It doesn’t have all the bells and whistles like XT or XTR, but it retains enough trickle-down tech to get the job done. Deore was last updated in 2020 , and after spending last year focused on Shimano’s latest Di2 drivetrains, it’s refreshing to receive a new mechanical groupset that caters to budget-conscious riders (i.e., us at Vital). Deore has shared the bottom of Shimano's product hierarchy with SLX for many years. SLX was a bit nicer and higher priced to bridge the gap to XT. Moving forward, Deore takes over as...

6/15/2026 5:33am Is there any more info about that new microspline, linkglide, 11s, 10-50 cassette that they are implying in the marketing material? Or is it a typo?

6/13/2026 5:19pm Excuse my French, but could we fucking please stop calling bikes "analog", "acoustic", or -the worst I've heard- "bio"? Bikes are bikes. Ebikes are something else. Now get off my fucking lawn you punks!

5/12/2026 12:23pm Long time lurker, first time poster here. For some background I’m an aerospace composites engineer and spent several years in Advanced Product Development with an emphasis on environmentally friendly materials. There’s so much to get into on this topic and if folks are interested I’d love to start a dedicated thread on materials and environmental impacts. The TLDR is, carbon fiber as a green product on its own is a fallacy. The raw fiber production may result in a certain level of carbon sequestering, but the process is still so energy intensive I wouldn’t call it an environmental positive. As...

5/9/2026 10:47am nothing? they are the only ones making their own controls and the only ones integrating an electric dropper that is powered by the ebike's battery. one could say they are the first company offering their own ebike UI. everyone else is on stock controllers

5/4/2026 11:47pm Microspine drivers are a blight against humanity and should die in a fire along with the stupid plastic spacer they require to prevent Shimano cassettes from creaking like a haunted house. The only thing that might be worse than the microspine interface and its woefully anemic, made of cheese, lock ring might be the actual cassettes themselves which in the year of our lord 2026 still are half singe piece pinned garbage that falls apart and half stamped metal plates with spacers. Seriously, 12 speed shimano stuff is the most disappointing experience I've ever had with a drivetrain. I hate...
