I couldn't figure out where to post this because it's not really about a company shutting down, but it also doesn't make sense in the team rumours or tech/innovation threads. Pushy's (the Australian YT distributor) is rumoured (per a reddit comment) to not be restocking YT once the current stock is sold out. Concurrently, YT's website no longer lists Australia as a selectable region and the former au URL simply redirects to the main www one.

I've been a fan of weird bike things since day 1, so im in on the gearbox/belt drive. That being said, I think these mtbs are still more limited to more specific use cases or riding areas, not wide spread adoption. I have a pinon belt drive commuter bike that I LOVE- the gear range and having almost zero maintence...

Thanks for the shout out, Spomer. Like he said, I’m pretty tall and I have very long legs for my height, so I’m one of those weird ones who loves 175mm cranks on my mountain bike. I find anything shorter feels like circus cranks a little bit, and I lose the ability to modulate small but forceful movements when I’m climbing technical sections. I also like the ability to go from 0-60 HARD when I’m cranking for a jump, catching up to someone faster than me, or racing. I’ve tried 170’s and 165’s and keep coming back to 175’s. I...

Gates is massive to say the least. They make different belts for bikes, snowmobiles, cars, trucks , heavy equipment , industrial fans and drive motors. They are one of the biggest names in the industry.

Via Team Rumours; did not know Gates Belt Drives was a public company on the NYSE: https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/GTES/ It’s above my pay-grade to go through their financials, but they got to be doing well if they are offering a 100k prize purse. Can anyone read into their reporting and tell us how good/bad they are doing?

Dak was getting LIVELY on the B team podcast about not spilling beans on who the new Trek rider going to be. I didn't care, until I did. Got to be someone close to Dak for him to care so much.....

In theory yes and I considered doing it but it definitely would have cost me more to do that way. I wouldn't have bothered with the Walmart bike part of it though. There is no tracing for stuff like that. I'm usually in Europe several times/year for work or vacation but it wouldn't be worth it for me to do it that way unless I was already going to be in England. I was well aware that this was going to be the deal when I ordered it anyway. I'm kinda used to doing it because I buy a lot...

This is Atherton's brand new HQ in Wales. Do you know how much a brand new purpose building like this costs? Lots of ££££££, before you pay dollar one on staff costs. Whenever I see big cool new shiny corporate HQ's in bike world, I think the companies think it's supposed to impress me, but it just worries me. A lot of the Bellingham companies got shiny new offices in high rent areas in the last 5-10 years and each of them took my breath away in a not-so-great way.

So what does a company do if they have a new unreleased update to one of their bikes, but just said they are turning off the lights? These companies that are heading out pasture all have current and likely new bikes sitting on the shelf, how are their supplies going to be absorbed? I would like to see some gorilla...

i know it's a fine line between relevant discussion about economy and the bike industry in this forum thread and i'm always blown away by how civil everyone is here. i appreciate that! as it's starting to get a bit more general, we have an "off the bike" forum area if you want to talk general global policy, thoughts on immigration etc. - https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/VitalMTB/Off-the-Bike,3 let's keep this one as bike-specific as possible.

The highest compliment a topic can get: a stern insistence the conversation be moved out of the Tech Rumors discussion and into its own thread. I feel like I just watched Bearings grow up, go to college, and get accepted to medical school. You'll do great, kid! We're proud of ya'!

The decades long cycle of USD forks being good for mtbs, only to have manufacturers completely 180 their narrative continues. Wonder if it’ll stick this time…
