12/7/2025 2:52am Thanks, subscribed! Are there really more PE firms in the US than McDonalds? Noticed this is incomplete: Update, a few people asked for data points around consumer health, though there are a gazillion, the ones that stood out the most to me include (Who heck down-voted your post?)

12/6/2025 11:46am Yes, I think annual threads is the format I would also prefer. As others have pointed out, this thread specifically thrives on a healthy mix of actual tech rumors and lighthearted banter / memes. But for that, the conversation needs some sort of continuity. To get that continuity, but also not eat up too many resources on the Vital servers, I think yearly servers would be the best solution.

12/6/2025 11:46am 100% agreement. Vital is awesome and anything we can all be doing to make the whole service more viable - especially things that don't fundamentally change the site's usefulness - is something I (and I'm sure most others) would be on-board with.

12/5/2025 7:09pm No kidding. This thread is freakin amazing! The things I've learned from The Hub on Vital in the last couple years are remarkable to say the least. what's gonna happen to bike sales in 2026? Another slow year, I think, but maybe the surviving companies will have had time to adjust their output and supply of new models will be...

12/4/2025 10:28am This is the way. Rename the v2 Tech Rumors thread to 2026 Tech Rumors, pin it, close it on Dec 31, 2026. Rinse and repeat. Kinda similar on the MTBR NorCal forum that I also inhabit, there is a monthly thread dedicated to ride reports (and all their tangents and side conversations). Works really well and is easy to navigate/manage.

12/4/2025 10:27am @sspomer I totally get your decision from a web resourcing point of view. Things get really expensive really quick when you need to tack on more power. A lot of cloud hosting providers price exponentially instead of linearly. That being said, I think not pinning a v2 and keeping this way of chatting about rumors is a mistake. This thread works because it allows for banter along side rumors I wouldn't ever care about. Prime example is the Santa Cruz Vala, a bike I have negative interest in. However that did prompt the carcinization of bike suspension discussion (that prompted...

12/4/2025 10:22am Guys, don't worry, Alan Greenspan told me that markets always work things out and they arrive at optimal output, consumption, and employment on their own. We live in the best of all possible worlds!

12/3/2025 6:34pm Great advice to ensure you don't pay overage fees. My favorite move is to 3D print a stand-in for your shock at an appropriate eye-to-eye and hardware sizing, and chuck your shock in your carry on. On my DH bike it saves almost 2 lbs, and I actually reduced the eye-to-eye a bit to "sag" the suspension and reduce the size of the bike, improving the fit in the bag.

12/2/2025 8:56am I can actually provide some feedback here to the maven base vs all other flavors of maven conversation... unfortunately, @TEAMROBOT took most of the words right out of my mouth. I have 3 sets of maven brakes on my bikes, Experts, Bronze and Base. I am running 200mm HS2 rotors and metallic pads on all of the setups. I recently bought the maven base to put on my trail bike as I was having a hard time running mavens on 2 of my bikes, and then TRP DHR Evos on my trail bike. The modulation point (harder to feel the...

11/30/2025 9:16am Mostly cuz they are what I had around when the HS2's came out. They are light, cheap, and I wasn't needing more power so stuck with centerlines. There is one long steep descent here in SW CO where I'll get some fade, but I only ride that trail a few times a season if that.

11/29/2025 9:28pm New Dakine rolling bike bag worked for me recently and was able to get it under 50 pounds by removing a bunch of parts so didn't have to pay oversize fees. Rotors, chain, pedals, pump, tool... off and into a carry on. New bike is heavier so would probly have to take front brake and maybe seat and post off...

11/29/2025 9:19pm I used to have a shitty bike rack you could pretty easily just steal off the car if you wanted, and I had to head into the shop. I was so proud of my idea to back up perfectly to a pole so I could lock my bike to the pole without having to take it off the rack. Came out of the shop, jump in my car and promptly ripped my bike off the rack driving away breaking the straps it was attached with and giving it a big ol scratch.

11/29/2025 9:19pm I have had good luck with cutting the end of the tubeless tape at a bias - a 45 degree type cut at the end. Seems to work well at keeping the end down and not slowly working itself loose over time.
