I thought it was breathtaking that the riding images in the press release feature a rider with "YT MOB" pants and helmet. It's sort of like taking your best friend's recent ex out to a seafood dinner. It's not illegal, but it sure looks bad. Didn't realize they were still using the name and likeless of their ex-athletes on the site, too. Yikes.

I think the French DH riders have it right when they just describe everything as either a DH bike or a trail bike. It's wild to me that people are thinking 150mm bikes are trail bikes now. I should be a bit more French.

Add Santa Cruz to the west coast mix. Lots of chunky / steep / fast stuff that merits a slacked out 170mm bike. Like yeah, I could ride a 26lb stumpjumper on those trails, but I'm having way more fun on a DH capable enduro rig. I don't think the enduro style of bike is going anywhere. It's more fun than a 150mm trail bike in a lot of scenarios.

Not tech rumors, but soil tech history! The difference between Oregon, WA and BC is all about ice. Kilometer+ thick ice sheets created glacial terrain features and exposed more bedrock from Washington State north. Oregon didn't get the sweet, sweet ice sheet remodeling. The maximum extent of the Puget Lobe of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet was Tenino, which is between Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon. In the Seattle area you have a lot of glacial till soils that the ice pushed around. Further north the ice scraped away soils and smoothed the bedrock, making terrain for amazing tech riding. This...

Oh Spomer... those contracts were with the old YT company run by old YT CEO Markus. New YT company CEO Markus has no idea what you're talking about.

I took my enduro bike out on my local XC loop the other day to test some things and it was slow, but boy was it comfortable. I use the enduro bike for a lot of things it isn't "necessary" for because it's easier on the body.

I think like most things this very much depends on where and what you ride. Here in Vancouver almost everyone I know is on a 160-180mm enduro bike. Our trails have a lot of big roots and big compressions so we’re using every bit of travel we can get. Even if you primarily shuttle to the top you’ll likely be pedalling at some point so you rarely see downhill bikes at Seymour.

i worked in such a shop once for a few months. one day, the troy lee softgoods arrived, at least 3-4 of each size. later, when trying to find space for the boxes, i found last year‘s order, about the same size, same things, neatly packed away in the basement…

On the same note, the companies have to be realistic with pre-order expectations. Typically, the shop puts in the order they want and the reps comeback asking for more.. One dangerous act I saw at a former employer was the rep came in with a suggested order and one of the owners didn't even question it. After the senior parter booted him, an inventory was done and it was quickly found out why they were so deep in the hole to the big red S.. Hell, day one when I went into the store that I would eventually manage, they...

On one of the Pink Bike podcasts not to long ago, Kaz and crew laughed at the tribalism between the users of both sites.. I'm willing to bet that a majority of us are on both sites.. A little different vibe between the two, but at the end of the day, it's just more mountain bike stuff for me to read and potentially some bike related discussions to participate in..

Thanks, subscribed! Are there really more PE firms in the US than McDonalds? Noticed this is incomplete: Update, a few people asked for data points around consumer health, though there are a gazillion, the ones that stood out the most to me include (Who heck down-voted your post?)

Yes, I think annual threads is the format I would also prefer. As others have pointed out, this thread specifically thrives on a healthy mix of actual tech rumors and lighthearted banter / memes. But for that, the conversation needs some sort of continuity. To get that continuity, but also not eat up too many resources on the Vital servers, I think yearly servers would be the best solution.

100% agreement. Vital is awesome and anything we can all be doing to make the whole service more viable - especially things that don't fundamentally change the site's usefulness - is something I (and I'm sure most others) would be on-board with.
