7/13/2026 5:53pm The last gen Shimano 2x front mtb derailleurs were actually ridiculously good IMO. The horizontal swing rather than vertical made set up ridiculously easy once you got over your 20+ years of front derailleurs operating in the same general fashion knowledge, Simplex be damned. Getting rid of that vertical swing seemed to have nixxed a lot of opp for the chain to get derailed poorly.

7/13/2026 5:05am Also 2 different riders. Also not the prophesied golden child, so that as well. It's kinda hard to talk about bikes when it's always the rider and some companies have more teams (cough commy cough)... But yeah, if the topic was success per gate drop, the Commencal may be the 'best bike'. Vali is sure as sh!t about to give them some numbers to ink in the history books. Asa's done great on the FWs and now Anna's got one. That's about as small a team as you can get outside of just being a privateer/solo program. So what does...

7/13/2026 5:02am The explosions in finals I could really do without. Amaury, Maples, Burke...grim crashes! And that's got to be the most random time gap separation for a finals I've seen. Nothing to separate & yet gaps on gaps on gaps in finals. Anyone know if this is the most Americans qualifying in a long time? Did I count 7? Burke Luca Pinky Maples Dak AG7 Asa

7/13/2026 3:30am In all seriousness, I’d like to see what/how good a 2026 2x8 drivetrain would be if sram or shimano put some serious resources into development.

7/13/2026 3:30am Three gears in the front and seven in the back could be the perfect ratio for mountain biking! It's almost like it would give you three different gear "ranges" using the front shifter- one for climbing, one for descending, and one for everything in between. And the chain alignment could be so much straighter without having to pack all your gears onto one super wide cassette. I wonder why no one's thought of that yet? I can't think of any downsides.

7/13/2026 3:14am Maybe a fraction of a step below, but I would include the current Commencal Muc-Off team. Amaury, Loris, and the two Alrans. The latter haven’t won yet, but I don’t think any of us doubt the day is coming for both and very soon.

7/12/2026 11:40am I don't think this is universally true. At least not here in Germany. In the more conservative markets like Germany (- notoriously conservative), consumers are generally still very suspicious and skeptical of chinese brands. Buying products from a chinese OEM or brand still carries the stigma of low quality, ip theft and bad warranty support. The fact that chinese branding is often terrible and generally incompatible with western expectations isn't helping either. It'll take years if not decades until the general cycling public over here changes their mind on this. I don't see anyone over here walking into a bike...

7/12/2026 11:37am One benefit of having a US based partner brand I can see as a consumer is warranty support. I usually buy used bikes but if I were to buy a new ebike, having native English speakers process claims would be helpful. Also if they had a facility in the US with some warranty stock, that means that if there are suddenly more protectionist tariffs or complete shutdown on certain Chinese brands entering the country, I could still get a replacement motor instead of being hung out to dry. An example is the Volvo EX30 (now canceled after 2 years). It...

7/11/2026 10:03pm I don’t think anything’s changed tbh, Finn took most of last year off to properly recover and spent the whole winter riding and on good health, Jordan having Nico there as a coach is obviously going to help. If anything if Loic wasn’t injured it would mean just more Specialized team riders in the top 5

7/9/2026 1:40pm Little insight I got. July release for yeti Avinox cvt system is not 100% and far out from coming to the market. Apparently issues with the system auto shifting down when rider puts high watts combine with motor. Sounds like System protecting itself. Not sure if this is just a software or the system not being able to handle it. We’ll see. Some high ups in specialized are not happy. A nasty email sent to engineers/ product developers to step it up and motor/gearbox combo bike priority 1 Specialized has an unreleased bike the industry will get to see at...

7/9/2026 1:39pm Riders' goals matter, this is where racing and daily riding for nine-to-fivers diverge. Enduro and DH racers want the fastest speed going down, recreational riders are looking for the best compromise to reduce suffering on the way up. The people I ride with only care about speed when climbing . For descending we want confidence and predictability. Confidence = speed for us. The tire that is fastest descending changes 150 times a year based on the specific trail and the amount of moisture (or complete lack thereof). My ideal tires for a weekday lunch ride on Galbraith flowy stuff are...

7/9/2026 1:38pm It depends on what question you are looking to answer. Race sim will tell you which tire you are faster on. If you want to know about rolling speed of radial Mary vs standard Mary for instance then Chung method can get you some numbers, but it's very difficult to do, especially offroad. Chung method assumes you are accurately repeating, so basically you can't use the brakes and things like that. The Golden cheetah software does have a tool to help with analysis though. The simplest way to compare rolling speed is with a section of trail with a U...
