Santa Cruz 5010 (130) and a Canfield balance (170). I think with two bikes you need at least 30mm of separation. I had a switchblade (~150) and it was too close to the big bike so I “downsized” to a 5010, but it is still plenty capable. I also have a 140 hardtail but rarely ride it. I am happy with the trail + enduro for what I do. I only pedal, and mostly like backcountry trails in Colorado. I’ve tried all the combos and even though I voted XC + Enduro I actually have a 160/170 and a rigid Hudski Dualist. I love mountain biking but I also love riding. The hudski has been killer for rides around town, gravel missions in the backcountry of Oregon, and as a killer camping vehicle. I had an epic Evo and hated it. I have a basket on the hudski and I love how chill my mindset is when riding. My stumpy Evo is 160/170 and I have a light trail wheelset with fast light tires and a burly enduro wheelset...

My two (mountain) bike quiver is a Raaw Madonna and a Transition Spur, i.e. Enduro and aggressive XC. I’m a (former) enduro racer and live near a rowdy bike park, so a big bike that I can ride hard in rough terrain is a must. Built the Madonna about as burly as it can be built and I love it, even when my descents are all pedal-accessed. Much different casings and a lot more going on with the new DH vs DD. The butyl insert in the new DH is waaaaaaaaaay stiffer than the old one or what’s found in the DD casing. It also has different geometry-thicker at the base near the bead and tapers as it goes up the sidewall. I believe it’s also taller than the insert in DD so it extends higher up the sidewall. And then the sidewalls are topped with a layer of EXO for additional cut protection. I’m no longer at Maxxis, but I was working on this launch up...

For some years now I've run a strip of Velox rim tape to cover the spoke holes and then tubeless tape over the top. Saved me from having to ride a flat all the way down a few times. I use 16mm Velox iirc on my Reserve 30 and 31|DH.

Remember, there are alot of people who are what I've heard referred to as "Speadsheet Shoppers".. And with them, bigger is better. More watts, more better.. Bigger battery, better.. Avinox has done a good job at delivering more without a huge weight penalty. And from what I've heard, the new motor has done a good job addressing issues with the first motor. Refer to the podcast with Jeff and Robot. They are a tech company addressing things the way a tech company does. But, with all that said, I'm really interested in the rumors of a full power TQ motor...

So your theory is that there's nothing special about the Avinox hardware, and the only thing makes their bikes faster and more powerful is software? Curious if anyone else in here agrees with that analysis, especially anyone who knows more than me about electric motors, batteries, power management, etc.

7/22/2026 11:33am Just took at Teewing Turbo Force for a ride. Its Teewing's 150/160mm bike with the Avinox motor. Very nice bike for $6kMSRP. Motor is so quiet and massively tunable. Under 50 pounds. 800watt battery. One of my local shops is now a dealer. For that price it becomes something to consider for sure.

These are both the answer. Jordan and Finn are both really fucking good (and healthy) and now there is one less person fighting for the podium. When that person is often at the top of the podium, your odds are better when they are gone. Plus, off year for goldstone.

I don't really buy that theory. Looking at the last few seasons, this feels more like a natural progression than Loïc not being there. Finn Iles 2024: Already one of the fastest riders in the field. Multiple podiums and only 0.169s off the World Championship win. 2025: Injury/concussion issues meant he never found his rhythm and openly talked about it 2026: Looks more like a return to form than a breakthrough. Not rumor or top secret tech (or is it?!), but all this SS talk got me excited... Fellow Luddites rejoice. $5 in hardware and proper reuse of a destroyed derailleur: Keeping it about tech, though, this little contraption really made me want to try the Lal Supre Drive. I hope the Supre Drive or similar concept shows back up in the future.
