He's not just saying so. It's an established fact in the engineering world for bolted joints. Every single torque spec should always include whether that spec is for lubed or non-lubed threads. The fact that the bike industry doesn't do this is mind boggling.

I don't know if Fox puts pre-applied thread lock on the crown bolts, but if they do it might be worth removing. It can have a big impact on how tight the crown gets on the stanchions. Ohlins had so much pre-applied thread lock on DH38 crown bolts I had a stanchion slip after torquing to spec on a new fork. Ended up removing as much of the thread locker as possible, then torque spec held. I have never seen a MTB fork crown bolt torque spec that specified dry, greased, or thread lock applied. But it would be quite...

there was a fair amount buzz at crankworx this year that there won't be another crankworx, and that red bull pulled out of joyride for 2026. put the WC there instead? hoping it's not true.

Super boost and short chain stays would stop me from buying a Pivot before anything Bernard did.. I wouldn't date anyone that young, but I'm a lot older than he is.. We assume things are questionable, but laws are different everywhere. Sexual assault is a whole different thing..

I’d argue that might’ve worked effectively the first dozen times the bike industry did it, but not anymore. Unless what you’re hiding is truly unique, it actually does the opposite. People either see through it as a gimmick immediately, or are disappointed when the cover comes off and what is underneath is generic copied homework thus having the opposite effect just when the bike is actually about to go on sale.

@Brian_Peterson and @LePigPen - Giant should be treated equal parts like a "bike fab" than just a brand in and of themselves. Their own bikes are a notable part of the business, but the bikes they make for other companies very large, too. In this light, we can treat them like TSMC. The analogy does fall apart for various reasons I'll detail in a subsequent post but if there is one "TSMC" of bikes, its Giant. You guys do mention how they have business outside mountain bike, which I'm sure is bigger than mountain bike alone (either their brand or...

Can people redo that drop out test by tightening the pinch bolts incrementally instead of torquing one down completely before doing the other? I know the manual doesn't say that but its the proper way to tighten any pinch bolt system

People seem to think bike companies have way more time and money on their hands than they actually do......pulling 20 units together AT ALL, let alone people with enough spare time to strip them down and rebuild perfectly is close to impossible. They will for sure be getting some kind of once over but that's going to be pretty standard anyway for a new production run....the QC from those top brands are already really really good in my opinion and the amount of "problems" certain people try to make you think exist just aren't anywhere near that bad in reality....

The rules for DH are almost as simple as saying that whoever rides a bike from the top to the bottom fastest while staying in the track limits wins, and I love it. Any type of hyper specific equipment rules like those in road racing or ski racing just limits the innovation that's required to be the fastest. If somebody wants to wear ankle weights or put oobleck in their tires because they think it's better, then they should let them. Let the fastest rider win. Shake weight in the steerer tube? Sure. Hamster bottle for the rear brake? Have...

It's a conspiracy between SRAM and WBD to further price small teams and privateers out of DH racing.

Looks like the stretch of good weather at Crankworx is coming to end. Solid bout of rain for the 1199 race, highly doubt Joyride will go ahead on Saturday.

Every time you mention this random ass definition of what a chainstay length is, i can't help but think about how it doesn't make any sense unless you're talking only about single pivot bikes, and how everyone you talk to is going to misunderstand you anyway. The fun thing about language is that words mean what people understand them to mean, not what you want them to mean. I'll post the rest of my response to this in the chainstay thread.

Good result, good event, but the wales hardline for me has lost its shine. For me it has become the leogang of Hardline, I’ve watched that race track so many times now that every year looks the same, time for a refresh! More tech more awkward like Rachel eluded to in the Wyn Tv video.

Hey everyone, not mad at anyone in this thread (besides maybe myself). I clearly have ideas and a delivery style that probably isn’t ideal for a mountain bike forum. Robot wrote a genuinely great post (he’s a better writer than me), and I realized there was no way for me to counter it. Not because I didn’t have anything to say, but because I started turning into this (actual photo Tucker took of me this morning): Any frustration you see from me is with myself, not anyone else. I like friction. I like debate. What I don’t like is knowing...
