I think you’re almost spot on but I’d bet they didn’t give a number for peak power on purpose—Trek has cargo commuter e-bikes and specialized just released a cargo e-mountain bike. They’d be shooting themselves in the PR foot to commit to anything specific now

Honest question for knowledgeable people in the forum: are these standards any different than what Trek was already offering on their ebikes? Have they downgraded the speed, power, or throttle access of their ebikes, or are they just committing to not upgrade the speed, power, or throttle access?

I still say Crestline's Bosch system was the best. Slide right out the bottom. Ultimate modularity being able to use the 400, 600 and 800 battery with just different brackets bolted to the battery. Battery was bolted straight through the downtube, no latches or anything to deal with. I think this new Fuel+ will be similar.

I thought the battery removal style on the Levo 3 was quite good. You just unplugged the cable from the side (same as if you were going to charge) then undid a single big bolt underneath and the whole battery slid out. I've got to think that kind of system added a lot less weight than the giant removable side panels on the Levo 4 or some of the Bosch Trek bikes, or the removable bottom panel which needed to be bolted onto the bottom on the Transition Relay.

Depends how the battery is removed. With a small form factor motor like two sliding out different length batteries at the bottom of the downtube can be realized with a minimal weight penalty plus you get a lower center of gravity with the smaller battery. I do that all the time and most of my rides are done with the smaller battery and it handles much better that way.

The inventory issue is the true answer here. S is trying to get rid of them. I prefer SL bikes. ~44 pounds is the tipping point for great bike handling (completely unrelated to my SL ebike and my old 26" dh bike from back in the day that both weigh 44 pounds) The avinox system is both an SL system and a full power (hyper power?) We did a comparison test between Specialized's Levo 4 and Levo R to see what separates each bike. And selfishly, I wasn't really sold on the Levo R and wanted to see if Specialized was just blowing smoke or if it served a purpose. TLDR - both bikes ride really well. The Levo R could be made into a sick mini-enduro bike with some different components. Motor power/range is great, but I'd struggle to buy one knowing Avinox exists and offers more everything at a similar or lower weight. Like, comment, sell your soul to the devil 😈

Interesting. I'd imagine it's possible to do that. In my current area i do a fair bit of commuting to the trails. That'd be pretty nice. I'd be more inclined to use it for the work commute as well

It was an Avinox test Last years PL pro went for 156km (iirc) and the PX pro went for 144km in eco. 80kg rider, paved road etc… its all on their website and they’ve been pretty vocal about it.

I’m so glad I’ve never had to ride in a trail area that doesn’t have dedicated one way mtb trails. It seems like it just causes so many problems.

To be fair , even without emtb's those groups will find something to restrict regular mtb's from "their" trails. It's a numbers game. Emtb's create more cyclists = more say at the table. I still think the industry (and DJI) are hoping to "solve" the access issue by doing nothing and waiting until the technology is so compact and quiet that an ebike is barely distinguishable from an analog bike. We've already partially been there for 5 years with the launch of the Levo SL, and all the new Avinox bikes took a big leap forward in making full power ebikes look like analog bikes. I’m sure this access thing is going to be different in whatever area we are talking about. Different land managers, and perspectives. Here in Southern Oregon there are E bikes everywhere. Hikers and other groups have complained about them, but the forest service and the city of Ashland don’t have the manpower or the resources to enforce any of it. Basically like trying to stop a tsunami. The amount of rogue trails that have sprung up has went nuclear. I'd prefer it if we give it time to gain the proof that it will cause conflicts. That extra evidence would help get regulation amount correct
