Honestly, who knows at this point. The new ski lift installation, which was the reason for the bike park being closed last summer, did not happen. The timber harvest that was supposed to fund the lift installation, that closed the bike park last summer, did not happen The permit for the lift installation, that was supposed to be paid for by the timber harvest, that closed the bike park last summer, was denied due to zoning issues. And lastly; the lift that was already purchased and has sat on the ground for many months, which had it's permit denied, which...

I’m a huge proponent of eating 80-120g/hr of carbs, but trying to do that with Super Salted Raspberry Baja Blast flavor gels makes me want to die. The Maurten gels just taste vaguely sweet and have no aftertaste, so I can munch them indefinitely.

1. Hydration vests. Between the USWE Rush 8L and the San Util Saguaro, being able to comfortably cary a bunch of water and food on long, hot rides was a big change this year. 2. Maurten gels. They’re pricey, but being able to eat 80-100g of carbs an hour made a huge difference in my ability to tack on laps...

Have ridden carbon frames for a long time. Built up a Madonna. Trip bike for me, and on first big rowdy descent I'm getting this weird, intermittent, metallic, clanging sound. I kick things off with some good ole catastrophic, black-and-white, my-trip-is-ruined-thinking and then get down the specifics: fork damper probably has come loose; maybe it's the coil on my shock. I'm running heavy casing instead of inserts, so maybe my tire pressure is low and the rim dings are reverberating in the allow frame, etc., etc. Noise and theories come and go throughout the day. Finally realize that when my...

Not tech rumors, but soil tech history! The difference between Oregon, WA and BC is all about ice. Kilometer+ thick ice sheets created glacial terrain features and exposed more bedrock from Washington State north. Oregon didn't get the sweet, sweet ice sheet remodeling. The maximum extent of the Puget Lobe of the Cordilleran Ice Sheet was Tenino, which is between Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon. In the Seattle area you have a lot of glacial till soils that the ice pushed around. Further north the ice scraped away soils and smoothed the bedrock, making terrain for amazing tech riding. This...

Long chainstays corner really well. They put weight on the front so you can drift/slide the backend around corners. Putting more weight on the front also allows you to use a taller front end. Large and XL bikes need 470-500mm chainstays to maintain that ideal 1.75 ratio-

Shimano has been on the “me too” cycle with mountain bike products for at least the last 10 years. It’s all just been reactions to what SRAM and others have been doing. Nominating them for any kind of award is just a hard no in my opinion.
