Yeti's dealer base is shrinking due to Specialized and Trek buying all the big players in major markets. They have no choice but to sell direct. Any brand who doesn't sell direct is stupid. Dealers don't have any cash to buy inventory and bike brands need cash to pay bills to factories and suppliers. Yeti having a sale is smart. Clear out inventory and get cash in the bank. Brands with cash and no debt will win this battle.

As a CFO (outside of the bike industry), and a lifelong mountain biker, I've been following the current boom/bust cycle in the bike industry. I have very reliable sources at GG and banker friends who lend to multiple bike companies or their parent companies. @whitesq comments on GG are basically correct, they sold a majority equity position to a private individual investor. Initially they believed that investor had a shared vision for the company which included developing high end bikes and ebikes, in addition to growing their in house domestic revved carbon manufacturing as a contract manufacturer to other bike...

Ah yea an old video makes sense. No redbull helmet. It’s certainly Jackson out front, and remy following. But it must be a trek. The video was posted only a few days ago tho, so that’s what threw me off https://www.instagram.com/reel/C0PvPpTPAft/?igshid=NzBmMjdhZWRiYQ==

https://www.bicycleretailer.com/announcements/2023/11/14/norco-adds-key… Norco has a new head of brand as of a few weeks ago. A quick search shows she is from South Africa. Would be a hell of a coincidence.

GOAT back to Honda Racing Corporation gearboxes? More importantly, a friend suggested Pon change the name to Santa Cruz Factory now, Syndicate is dead.

I may be alone in this but I see a big silver lining here. Greg moving on from Syndicate means he's still going to race, which of course I love seeing.

6D helmets are popular in the moto world, supposedly one of the safest helmets out there but who knows what really works. Having briefly owned a 100% aircraft i have a hard time thinking the World Cup riders in them feel safe wearing them. Maybe a good enduro helmet but they’re so light and pretty uncomfortable unless you have a tall, narrow head. With the speeds we’re getting to maybe we’ll start seeing more wc racers switching to moto helmets.

Liability of wireless brakes is terrifying… I don’t think any cars are doing fully electric brakes yet? cool if someone can make it happen though

Probably for the "MX" line like their doublecrown, light motorbikes?

I sporadically think about buying an e bike, then as I delve a bit deeper I start reading all the stories about motor replacements and other issues. The amount of used e bikes where the seller says it's got a brand new motor or motor and battery are really off putting, the failure rate is unacceptably high IMO. Manufacturers only offering a two year warranty on motors and batteries is also scary to me. No way I'm spending £5k+ on something that's potentially worth jack shit in 3 years.

Add another option robot "I'll update when the tech advances enough it becomes impossible to resist" ie weight, range, price. My last eeb I had for 2.5 years, I think I'll do the same with this one. The tech is not evolving at a rate for me to want to upgrade. When 180mm travel full power bikes that have burly gear are 22kg I'll upgrade.

My disagreements with the judging this year weren't necessarily about the winner but about the other rankings. IMHO, Tom Van Steenbergen was over-scored. Looking down the list, we've got Kyle Strait placing higher than Bienvenido. Bienve's front flip was one of the wildest things I've ever seen, whereas Kyle's run was a cool comeback but didn't include anything we haven't seen him do before. And why was Sorge ranked above Jaxson Riddle? Jaxson's run might not have had a single show-stopping moment like the very top riders but at least he was throwing in tricks all the way down, while...
