6/27/2023 11:51am For those who are worried about the track being too smooth, I *promise* the holes are coming back. It's one of the steepest tracks on the circuit, there are unlimited nasty rocks and roots hiding under the fresh dirt, and the dirt on that hill is loose, dry, and unstable. Once they dump 250 racers on the track for three days of practice, quali's, semi's, and finals, the holes will come. I think if they'd made it smoother and straighter that would have been a bad idea, but it looks like they've made some good extra turns to bring the...

6/27/2023 11:40am This is one of those things that is turning me against Discovery ESO. They talked about increasing safety but also mislead people by claiming that increasing to 2 race runs would not increase injuries. That's patently false to anyone with a C level understanding of statistics. Double the runs = double the risk, and that ignores rider fatigue as a factor Stuff like this, the lack of a safe B zone is just another strike showing ESO doesn't care about rider safety enough to take minimal steps to improve safety. I'm actively trying to give ESO a chance, but it's...

6/27/2023 11:35am Whilst it's cool that Crankworx goes to some different places, I think they need to find some new venues with better tracks for DH. Innsbruck, Cairns and Rotorua DH tracks are all a bit meh IMO. I'm hoping the new track for Whistler will be a bit more interesting. It's a shame it's so close to the Worlds, I can't find a start list as yet, but I think it may have drawn more big names if it was earlier in July.

6/26/2023 2:53pm i thought the same. aside from the top 10 seconds of lenzerheide, it was the same as last year and leogang was the same too, right? i haven't watched dean vid yet, but the low-slung, non-breakable tape seems to be a significant problem, taking out a few riders as they snagged it and went OTB after blowing off course. @dolface - yep, EDR is off until september 1 and after VDS this weekend, the next race DH isn't until august 23 - world champs are in the middle of all that, however. re: rob and eliot in the cwx dh...

6/26/2023 2:48pm the 180-190mm zebs are notoriously progressive and given proper ride height may never hit full travel. You have 2 options here. Does the fork feel good to you? Cut the O-ring off a go about your life Or Trutune or Carbon Air inserts, which act in a way of anti volume spacers, making your fork more linear and easier to use full travel.

6/22/2023 12:19pm Am I remembering wrong, or did Chris Porter say that the current crop of single crown forks start to massively lose performance once you go sub 60 degrees? Hopefully we start to see light, 160-180 dual crown forks from the big players.

6/19/2023 10:30am Exactly if it does absolutely nothing but the rider thinks it does it's worth it. They asked Jordy a similar question about saying they made a change but didn't actually change anything. He said won't do it and fully respect the reason he gave but damn I bet there are time it would a useful tool. The mind is powerful and can be more powerful than something scientific. I know one weird one for me for a long time was I was faster and more comfortable riding with 3/4 or long sleeves than short sleeves. Having something on my elbow...

6/19/2023 10:24am Spotted in Vital's Pit Bits. Looks like the Pivot uses an eccentric mounting between the seatstay and rocker? Guess it's just a way of fine tuning BB height, head angle etc.

6/13/2023 1:17pm Loris' mechanic said in the Vital Pit Bits from Lenzerheide when asked about the Pirellis: "It's good, still need a bit more improvement to be ready to win races but... the guys want to have tires that win races." Kind of a crazy admission from someone on the team payroll.

6/13/2023 9:54am Alarm bells went off in my head when Chris Ball stated that since most injuries happen in practice, adding another race run wouldn't increase the amount of injuries. As Mark Twain said "there are 3 kinds of lies; lies, damn lies, and statistics". While I believe it is true that there are more injuries during practice, there are exponentially more runs in practice that race runs. Everyone who didn't make the top 60 still did multiple practice runs. Chris and ESO were being intentionally misleading with that statement and statistic. Double the race runs doubles the chance for injury. Having...

6/12/2023 11:27am I said I was a fan of the format, but that's only because I think being able to watch Juniors Free and having the Juniors practice on the day of trackwalk with all the Pro riders on track at the time was amazing. The entire qualis/semis/finals format isn't great, IMO. It definitely dilutes the finals "win" because now there's so many chances to "win" as well as lose. Also, I envision races where the fastest time on the track is actually put down by the winner of the semis, but the winner of the final has a slower time... which...

6/12/2023 11:11am The new format means more race runs to watch on any given weekend which i'm all for. I don't agree with the protected rider status rules though - if you bin it in the semi-final, you should be out of the main final regardless.
