7/31/2024 2:17pm Nice comparison! Consider checking out Tectonic. I have 2 pair of their original CFRP pedals still going strong, the version currently sold is Al, but I like the size and shape, grip is fantastic. I've only replaced 2 pins and have not needed a rebuild kit.

7/3/2024 1:02pm Ill bet you 6 doughnuts right now, we see it somewhere else. And you can run other shocks, its not like we are talking about a "brain" equipped Spesh, or Treks Supercal (that could be reason to whinge) You can clearly run an Ohlins shock, and re-tune nearly anything to work!

7/3/2024 1:01pm from jason's vital review which has exactly what you're asking..... "include tighter writing, more of the reviewer's personal voice, way less mealy language of it's claimed it might it may." to not include the marketing claims from a brand in a review seems the wrong way to go. putting down a brand's claim with a reviewer's experience could justify or negate the marketing hype. isn't that the whole point of the review? to see if the brand/bike is full of shit or not?

7/3/2024 11:31am 145/55 = 2.63. Not unusual whatsoever. Damping forces can be tuned too, there's no set amount of damping depending on leverage ratio. You could make a shock for a 4:1 leverage ratio frame no problem.

7/3/2024 11:27am Im so utterly baffled by the comments on the Stumpy Its not a proprietary shock, its simply only currently available on the Stumpy, give it a hot minute, and I bet you'll see it available.... Its not exclusively running Fox suspension, as there is an Ohlins model available....Which should mean that both coil is acceptable, and pretty much any other shock will work (might require an appropriate tune) Mullet is an option on S3 and up sizing.... simply buy some stick on cable guides and run whatever you want on it. All of you "cry out" for external routing anyway...

7/3/2024 9:25am I agree. You get the benefits of lower progression which will work well in less demanding scenarios and a relatively simple but likely very effective ramp-up in spring rate that spreads the bottom-out progression over a wider and more controlled region of travel vs simply reducing volume vs tokens. This shock could work very well for a lot of riders...

7/3/2024 9:20am My buddy runs his shock at like 35% sag. He HAS to be bottoming out that thing so hard, so often. I think a lot of folks either a) don’t mind the feeling of bottoming out constantly or b) don’t mind riding a harsh over-sprung shock. I’ll tell you that the people involved in making this bike are looking to make bikes that feel good to ride and perform well. The problem with solving the problem on the damper end is that different rider spring rates require different tunes, and that just doesn’t work for the majority of riders. Sure...

5/24/2024 3:46pm teamrobot set a record for forum thumbs up, so here's a preview of what's to come (unlisted, only for the special people in this forum topic) regarding taking out pawls and testing ochain.

5/22/2024 6:27pm seeing High engagement hubs on modern bikes always have me thinking 'why pay so much for fancy plush suspension & then Stiffen it with a high engagement hub' I went through a went stage of wheel building when i had my META'AM'22, Had high anti squat - I couldnt understand why my bike felt so terrible through the fast rough compared to the same bike my friend had(different wheels) i built some nice I9 wheels and then a dtswiss 240 with 54t Took me untill i read DTswiss's website about pedal kick with high engagement and suspension/chain forces and for...

5/22/2024 6:20pm Yeah, buy a fancy hub then fix it's issues with OChain. Tairin has a good idea, always 5.5 deg engagement, but it adds complexity and I am unsure how robust the pawl retraction mechanism is let alone the drive ring/pawl system. Relative to this thread, here's a new E13 anti-kickback hub: https://www.pinkbike.com/news/patent-revels-how-ethirteens-anti-pedal-k…

5/22/2024 4:54pm That's good to hear, I haven't had time to try out the new wheels with the DT 36pt hubs yet, but was hoping the sus would be freed up a bit vs Hydras without the cost and weight of an Ochain. I have a Nomad too, so the Evo is built fairly light.

5/22/2024 4:51pm The stumpy EVO i had similar experience with DT hubs, Went all the way to 54T and instantly noticed the pedal feedback, had to drop to 36 to find a balance Just recently when changing from Trace hub to a vault, instantly noticeable... suspension felt stiffer and less free.... put other wheel back on and it was smooooooth again

5/22/2024 4:19pm Yeah, of course pick a bike that has the potential for it. On my Stumpy Evo I can now predict the occurrence of kickback. It happens both up and down. On ups if the rear wheel falls into low spot then back up it'll bounce your feet off the pedals. Basically same on the way down but it can be...

5/22/2024 4:11pm Would y'all want to see a 15-minute VitalMTB video with back-to-back testing on a section of brutal rocky chunder with different pedal kickback theories to see if the Ochain really works as advertised?

5/1/2024 3:29pm One the topic of aerodynamic clothing the course ski racing can be informative. FIS has extensive rules governing the permeability of gs suits and the clothing that can be worn underneath as impermeable rubberized layers are more aerodynamic than other woven cloths. FIS tests suits and prohibits the wearing of swim suits and similar materials underneath suits. one interesting thing to think about is training speed. In ski racing a run in a gs suit is ~5-10% faster, a difference that is noticeable and sometimes disorienting if you don’t train in a suit. Even if the fox kits aren’t legal...

5/1/2024 3:28pm The obvious solution is skinsuits for women and baggies for men. For men the garment can have requirements to be so much larger than the rider's measurements, so for example if he's got a 40" chest the shirt must have a 42" chest. Bicep +1", thigh +1.5", etc.

4/19/2024 1:34pm Certain kinds of rock and most roots, and it all gets much worse if it's wet. There's one local trail (Bitterbrush in Lyons, CO) that's mostly rock and Maxxis DC has no grip on it, and when wet it's scary. To make things worse it's not even that durable, the sideknobs on the Aggressor tires get undercut and start to...

4/19/2024 10:16am Maxxis DC is horrific on some surfaces. If you want a long wearing durable tire look at Conti DH casing soft, it'll be way better than Maxxis DC.
