Dave113 Added a reply to What body armor do you wear for DH??
12/27/2020 8:11pm All D30 or similar... RF Core jacket, Fox Enduro elbows, Cromag Rift knees, POC VPD liners, Bell Full-9 Helmet. Lots of good stuff these days, much progress from the old Roach hard-shells and Dianese pressure suits! D30 material seems like it could hardly help, but in crashes I've been amazed at how well it works! It's better than hard-shell pads!

Dave113 Added a reply to Will lighter riders benefit from an RS Zeb or Fox 38?
12/16/2020 12:18pm How you ride matters more than weight. If you double your weight you double impact energy. If you double your speed you'll have 4x the impact energy.
Dave113 Added a reply to Will lighter riders benefit from an RS Zeb or Fox 38?
12/16/2020 10:35am I had an '18 36 Fit4 w/Luftkappe before my 38... The 38 is superior in every way. I notice the stiffness and better tracking, but the spring and damper are also better and there is less friction. I find the 38 less fatiguing to ride as a result. A major difference is the lack of spike on big hits with...
Dave113 Added a reply to Another geo thread - this time, related to stack height
12/12/2020 2:40pm I'd add a couple things... IMO, manufacturers are still getting the geo of 9'ers dialed and some are much better than others. I think many have a reach that's way too short (like my '18 Trek Slash) and this makes f/r balance awkward and difficult, it feels like you're too far over the front end. The new '21 Slash (in...
Dave113 Added a comment about press release Introducing 'The Message' – Trailing Multi-Link Front Suspension from Trust Performance
11/2/2018 11:43am As I said I support the pushing of the envelope and cost-no-object design. It's very cool to see. I'm just saying for me personally, it doesn't make sense. For Richie Rude and Sam Hill, sure. For those lucky and skilled enough to have bikes given to them and whose race results matter, awesome. I race 40+ masters and nobody gives AF, and my enjoyment of mt biking isn't changed much riding a $10k Slash 9.9 vs a $3.5k Alum Slash. In fact, when I broke my carbon wheels and switch to DT XM481 I thought it was an improvement and...

10/30/2018 12:14pm While I support this kind of pushing of the envelope, for me personally, I think things have gone too far. I've had a bling bike near $10k and still kinda do, but no carbon wheels or cranks anymore. If I were to buy a new bike tomorrow with my own money it'd be the new Aluminum Trek Slash and I could probably walk out the door with one for under $3500. And that's the complete bike, not just the frame. All I need is a bike that just works, does what I intend it to do and doesn't draw much...

Quick update on my 100% gear.... I got back R-Core-X shorts and different gloves via 100% warranty dep't. The RCX shorts are EXCELLENT. They are a lightweight dh short, but much more burly vs the Celium shorts. Good for warm weather and/or pedaling. They have a more tailored fit vs the Celium which means they may be a little more picky about who they will fit. The material has some stretch to it, which works well with it's tighter fit. I also asked for 34s instead of 36s as they seem to run a little large, now the waist is...

Materials and process are a big deal with carbon fiber, one of the reasons I paid for a Trek Slash is that they have a lot of manufacturing experience and used impact resistant carbon sheet in the areas of the bike prone to rock strikes. As you know, the variance in quality of carbon manufacturing quality is very large, and if I'm going to pay a premium price for a carbon fiber frame I want to know that it's actually going into making a superior product. Otherwise I don't see a reason to buy it, as nearly every other bike...

Looks like they had to work really hard to get the shock and water bottle in there and it compromised frame design with teh DT sticking way out past the cranks and the tall TT to fit the shock rez. IMO, it's Nomad-ugly. I've always preferred a stiffer frame but haven't rode the Yeti so IDK, but I'm skeptical that this is going to work well for heavier riders. I'd also like to see exactly why the frame is $3800, for example Trek uses impact resistant carbon fiber in many places on the Slash and it's $100 less. Edit: It...

Ok, well... both pair of my Celium shorts ended up coming undone on consecutive rides. The seam tape came off and the fabric tore on the backside. This is just from pedaling, not crashing. I love the shorts and how light and comfortable they are but the durability is unacceptable. The shirts are only doing marginally better as the fabric seems to wear quickly. Maybe they went a little too far making the clothing lightweight. The gloves are also going back as the velcro doesn't work any longer. 100% will warranty them, but I'm not getting very far asking to...

8/18/2018 11:49am a bunch of internet larrys suggesting that one of the best mountain bike riders on the planet needs to chose better lines is hilarious...I bet 90% of the people commenting on this post haven't even seen Richie ride in person. The dude is smooth as hell, much smoother than probably any of us. You try being competitive at an EWS event. EWS track are savage. Flats happen. It's racing.

7/29/2018 11:42am Right, that's always been the case. And to my point about improvements: the old Impacts would have the sole tear off from the front, until they added stitching, that was one major improvement. The insole was originally made some weird papier-mache kind of deal, which you could also use to store water in for unlimited periods of time. That's all gone synthetic now, so that's another improvement. Mi6 rubber was used on some models (Impact VXi and Freerider Contact for example), they really did not hold together nor resist wear very well. Going back to S1 was another improvement in...

7/29/2018 11:41am Every pair of Impacts I’ve ridden, going back to the first ones under the FiveTen name (looked the same as the Intense ones but all black) have developed holes through to the footbed from pins. They would do a solid year of use, and they were still usable in dry conditions—in damp conditions water would seep through the bottom—but yeah, it’s not a new wear issue relevant to only the latest model Freerider Pro you’re riding. Not saying the cost is fine or whatever, simply pointing out that the impacts have done the same thing; maybe you got lucky with...

7/22/2018 8:26am “Refined” still only clears a 2.4 out back, reach is truthfully a size short, seat tube is still 1-2* too slack as well as 1”+ too long, and if they’d dropped a degree off the head angle they would have opened up better doors for shorter offset forks....bike still hits the target but is def no bullseye

I agree. My 100% Celium shorts and jerseys are doing great after much use and many washes in a LG front-loader. The key is, I don't own a dryer so all of my clothes last much longer and there are no issues with the glued together construction of the Celium shorts coming undone. If you can, I'd recommend never using a dryer, save energy, hang-dry everything and have your clothes last several times longer! I love my 100% clothing, they are very light and dry super fast yet strong enough to deal with a few crashes with no tearing. The...

3/23/2018 8:16am I'm happy with my switch to DD casing so far. Aggressor 2.3 DD in back...more stable, more support, less chance of flats and destroyed wheels. If DD doesn't work for you what does? These aren't far off the weight of a DH casing tire.

3/9/2018 1:55am The SLASH platform is still the Benchmark. It's within 1.1 seconds of the fastest Rallon on a 2:20min course. Toss a 2.5WT DHF Minion on the Slash instead of the weak XC tires that come with it and it will take the win. Throw on a Coil shock or an X2 on the Slash and give it a decent fork like a Performance Elite or Lyrik RCT3 and it will still be cheaper and lighter than the Orbea or Evil and pull ahead even more.
