10/26/2023 3:25pm I've been down a whole bunch of rabbit holes looking at ways to apply compliant mechanisms to a suspension layout. Countless hours in linkage, numerous scientific papers read, and much daydreaming. Some applications. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cq2pj7SJ-Xb/ Two pivots replaced with the flex of a tube. https://www.instagram.com/p/CtPAC95p1qy/?g=5&img_index=1 3d printed flex dropouts https://www.instagram.com/p/CeT-oDVBcpN/?img_index=1 Possible application would be to replace the slider mech on Arc8 with linear motion flexures. The best optimization is where you can limit down the degree of movement needed or the distance travelled. The lower a bearing would rotate the higher it's probability for replacement with a flexure.

10/26/2023 2:26pm Some more fodder - I recently crossed paths professionally with an industry veteran who has done composite design and analysis for a bunch of bike companies (he still does it now), most of which you have definitely heard of. He and I nerded out about frame/layup tuning for a little while one day and what he communicated to me was...

10/26/2023 2:16pm Interesting, maybe there was a change at some point in the past, I could have sworn the "OG" Spot Living Link was composite, I think it still is on their 115mm travel XC bike but it does appear the living link is titanium on their Mayhem bike. Anyway, I assume when you say unidirectional flex joint you mean a joint...

10/26/2023 8:42am Spot bikes has been dabbling in this for a while as well, they use a composite leaf spring instead of a second link/pivot in their full suspension design. I'm a composites guy professionally and i've spent a few years working at companies that make compliant composite mechanisms for space structures (fancy hinges and booms like daneb referred to). Based on...

10/13/2023 2:57pm I just went back and watched all three runs again (twice) - I think you can definitely say that Zink used the entire mountain the best and that usually gets rewarded. I still enjoyed Beinve and Brendog's runs wayyyyy more. All those dudes are sick nasty. I love Rampage.

10/13/2023 2:57pm Great rampage, the last few years have left me feeling like well that one time in that one year was way better lol. This year pulled through. Gutted for C-dog after watching that guys the minister I hope they bring him back. I would’ve liked to see brendog in 2nd. That must have been a tough day of judging. on another note it’s kind of sad to see two “ saftey” (obviously no rampage run is for mere mortals) runs from Jackson Riddle and other riders when people like Dylan Stark are dying to push the limit but not getting...

10/13/2023 2:54pm I’d like to see it rider/competitor judged instead. Feel like that would even the playing field a bit.

10/13/2023 2:34pm My brother in MTB-christ, although Zink was fantastic today, we must be honest with ourselves. His run was great and his story and career have been nothing but phenomenal. Zink's contributions to the sport are nearly unmatched. Ain't no way he won today. Especially not by the amount he won by. Brendog's line was absolute insanity, frankly the craziest line I think i've ever seen anyone ride. Beinve front flipped a f*****king canyon. Twice. Zink is the man, love him, but no way that run was worth 95 points. Every year there's very questionable judging at Rampage and this year...

10/13/2023 1:53pm agreed - in no universe did Zink win today, I couldn't believe that score. Brendog and Bien should have been first and second in either order frankly. TVS run was probably worth a podium finish but it wasn't better than Brendog or Bien. Typical Rampage fuckery.

10/13/2023 1:51pm Zink was over-scored. He did the same run in 13’ basically TVS was way over-scored. The caveman was not that impressive ( for a 2nd place finish ) Brendog and Bien were robbed !! Opera browser FTW!! Redbull and ESPN+ can suck it! Free for the world but not the host country? Greedy corporate BS… Typical Rampage fuckery

I totally acknowledge your experience when it comes to these matters and I appreciate your opinion but i'm gunna have to disagree based on my own experience. I have owned a Sentinel since December 2017 so i'd say I have some experience riding that bike and I rode it back to back against the Megatower this weekend and the bikes were ridiculously similar (in my opinion), so much so that I honestly think that if it were possible to ride with your eyes closed you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two bikes in anything other than...

We all need to give Transition some credit for releasing this exact bike two years ago. No arguing the superior quality that comes along with a Santa Cruz, plus all the adjust-ability, but the geo for the Megatower is (+/- 1 mm here and there) an exact copy of the Sentinel. WELL DONE TRANSITION FOR PUSHING THE ENVELOPE BEFORE ANYONE ELSE HAD THE MARBLES TO DO SO THEMSELVES!

8/18/2018 11:49am If anyone should be riding with a mousse in his tires it's Richie. Guy certainly has the power to deal with extra weight. However I was listening to the maker of Unno bikes on a podcast the other day, and he was suggesting that tire makers simply need to produce a much beefier and stronger tire for the riders of today. I think it makes a lot of sense than adding weight thru a mousse, cushcore, or modified pool noodle that simply tires with an even heavier sidewall/casing is the way to go.

8/18/2018 9:39am I recall a video (w/ Ben Cathro) of Minaar sending a janky ass gap at the last world cup and literally ripping a head-size chunk of stump out of the ground....there is no dogma in mountain bike racing people....

8/18/2018 9:33am a bunch of internet larrys suggesting that one of the best mountain bike riders on the planet needs to chose better lines is hilarious...I bet 90% of the people commenting on this post haven't even seen Richie ride in person. The dude is smooth as hell, much smoother than probably any of us. You try being competitive at an EWS...
