Echoing a lot of what Roryb has said. Current bike is a big heavy enduro bike with pinion gearbox and chain. The worst bit about it is the chain. Not noticed any increased drag over my conventionally driven bikes but being able to shift when stationary is actually a lot more useful that one would assume. Not crunching through through...

People assume way too much about gearboxes and belts. Do not judge until your ride one. The reports you read about the drag or gripshift appear to be mostly from people who haven't ridden a gearbox bike and are just repeating what they heard. I have a gearbox bike with a belt drive, 155mm cranks. Full suspension with idler and tensioner. So lots of added "drag" beyond the gearbox itself. It's a big enduro bike that gets used for bike parks and shuttle laps too. I've beat it to hell and back for the last 3 years, broken frames, bent...

Ok ill say it with my chest then. It's Pivot. I like the brand and BK is a bad look for them. I want them to do well, but in my opinion, they have to get rid of him and his Baggage to succeed.

Posting this again because you may have not seen it. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oioH7_ADLzuHFDC-pRGTnRCh8JLIt5u… Anything with a 3 in the confidence column is either confirmed by the team itself or is an extremely strong rumor. Confidence 1 or 2 are lower confidence in the rumor. The second sheet has a list of the teams that can be organized to show which teams will be within the top 15.

Now that the Pivot prototype's been out in the open for a bit, I decided to review the available shots/footage of the Spesh prototype and I am almost certain there's no concentric link to the BB. There's just no clearance from what I can see, and having tried all sorts of weird link configurations in Linkage (including a six-bar one that essentially acted like the old Demo with a completely forward axle path) it just doesn't make sense in any layout. What does make sense to me is those three bolts indicating a modular BB, which I believe @paddydigital suggested...

Spotted in Vital's Pit Bits. Looks like the Pivot uses an eccentric mounting between the seatstay and rocker? Guess it's just a way of fine tuning BB height, head angle etc.

Looks like the angle constantly increases (non linearly) throughout the travel, so that 0.3° is around the maximum I think. Its around 0.2° at half travel. Caveat all this with the fact that I dont know what the stoke is, just going by what looks about right. Much beyond this and the system starts to invert and do weird stuff.

Yea makes sense. The frame will be flexing all over the place so not hard to imagine a 0.3°ish flex in the rear end. Definitely looks like the have laid out the hardpoints to minimise this figure as much as possible. Maybe also why they got rid of the vertical race compared to the non jack shaft bike? Cool design...

They get it all over. A wishbone structure like they have here is not particularly stiff when you try to open it or close it. Adding a vertical brace makes it stiff (that's why triangles are so stiff). The thing is unless there is some magic going on with the layup, the chainstay and seatstay both curve all along the length to achieve this change in angle. Which is likely coupled with optimisations in the geometry of the links to require as little flexing as possible going through the travel.

So yea the pivot for sure needs flex somewhere in the system to unlock it. I did a suuuper rough model and measured the angle between the seat and chain stays at roughly bottom out (dont know shock specs) increases by around 0.3°. Where they're getting this I'm not sure. rear end looks like it built like a brick sh*thouse...

I think it has to be cast. Would have thought welding tubing to a casting is ok, thinking of automotive subframes for example. You raise a good point about why 5 Dev would get involved afterwards though. Maybe they made the part and then realised is was bloody heavy?? Either way, for Intense to be dropping cash on parts like...

Reckon that 'backbone' piece is cast with soft tooling then post machined? If so they must be fairly certain this is what they're going with for production. The funky looking chainstay looked printed to me but not so sure. Looks cool though!
