I enquired about this with a Santa Cruz dealer and they told me the sending a new wheel thing isn’t happening anymore. Just sending replacement rims and customer pays for new wheel build (like most other carbon rim warranties). To answer original question: im almost 200 and had the same experience with all alloy wheels. Since getting carbon they’ve been completely maintenance free except breaking a few rims across multiple bikes over like 5 years. Had some spoke breaking issues recently but I think that’s bad luck (hopefully!)

They definitely stay true. If your worried about breaking them consider reserves for the lifetime warranty. If you break one they will send you a new wheel, not just a rim. 30 hd carbons with dt swiss 350 6 bolt hubs are 1600 but for the lifetime warranty it could be worth the little bit extra over some others.

I've got WAO Strife's laced to Profile Elite MTB hubs for my RM Slayer. Outside of breaking one spoke, I haven't touched them since I had them built up last April and I'm pushing around 280lbs. I was skeptical on carbon wheels for a long time, and still don't think they're a must have, but if you have some extra money to play with, I definitely think they're worth it.

Toyota pricing has gone bonkers while somehow staying super under the radar. I bought a 19 Tacoma OR off the lot for 32k. I’m pretty sure a 23 OR is close to 50. Books will be written on the life of the 5th gen runner. It came out when I was in middle school and I’m several years out of college now. The return on investment/development Toyota made off that generation has to be one of the greatest in the history of cars lol. The prices for them basically doubled while remaining identical besides a few facelifts.

Specialized has done some questionable things, especially on the legal end, but I don't feel pricing is an area they are adrift. After all, this isn't AIDS medication or some good/service needed for survival. They should price at whatever level they feel the market will pay for their product. If they are wrong, nobody buys their stuff. Their loss. There is also a lot of nuance around product pricing and the underlying psychology around it. Hope is a great company with admirable business practices. Then there's Specialized....they've made some great bikes (I've owned a few), but when it comes to business practices, not so great.

Yeah right! That said Hope actually did this. They calculated an amortized cost for the carbon bike including development time etc but then after a while they realized they had learnt so much from the project that could be applied to other carbon products and help to spread the sunk costs. So they dropped the price by £1000 (iirc) and gave a rebate to all the original customers! This is very Hope-like. I kind of like that they are doing this, its a great bike and it doesn't really need an update. Does that mean that the bikes should be a little cheaper especially the frame only option since the molds are long paid for?

Meh, it really depends IMO. For my riding, adding an angleset to 2017-2020ish geometry bikes (which over the last 7 years I have done many times) have improved them in every single way (downhill bikes aside). Not to oversimplify it too much, I think there's some relationship between wheelbase and head angle that on the shorter wheelbases of yesteryear, the slacker head angle was a straight upgrade for aggressive riding. Don’t think it’s applicable to most people. Tend to bike in the woods. Commuter bikes on the other hand. I know axs and commuter don’t go together for most people but I’d imagine the market for that stuff is small regardless.

The "ass saver" style one puts the battery right in the water spray. What could go wrong? Might as well just hard wire the derailleur in to some solar cells, by which time you might as well just connect the shifter with a cable, which can work in the dark and doesn't need ridiculous charging gimmicks
