12/10/2025 11:17am We've had this discussion amongst the Vital staff as well, which basically resulted in our "Best Of 2025" Gear Show a couple of weeks ago: https://www.vitalmtb.com/videos/member/best-new-mtb-products-2025-vital…. We'd be super interested in hearing the answers from the greater community to this question as well - what stood out to you guys in "Team Green" at large :-) ? We felt like it was a year of incremental advancement and refinement, as opposed to new innovations that stood above the others in a more significant way.

12/10/2025 10:55am So as the year and this thread draws to a close, what were 2025's most significant innovations? What could get nominated for the Innovation Of The Year Awards? 32" wheels? That seems like nominating a shoe size. Fox's Glidecore air piston? That seems awfully similar to what Formula and perhaps others have used already. Some aspect of Shimano Di2? Maybe the wiggly shifter buttons or the angled brake levers? I really hope the greatest innovation isn't founders coming out of retirement in hope of saving their foundlings from extinction.

12/10/2025 10:00am Oregon isn't really representative of the riding on the West Coast when people talk about needing bigger bikes out here. Oregon is known for being smooth and flowy. BC and Washington are classic west coast in my books.

12/10/2025 9:26am This reminds me of the video of Skills with Phil hitting crab apple on a trail bike. Cant find it but i think it was like a 130mm travel GT

12/10/2025 9:23am Same here, everybody around me prefers to ride an enduro bike even when a trail bike would be faster and more fun. I ride a SB130 that's also overbuilt to piss with DH tires and LR spec stuff and have no problems flying with it to ride parks like Morzine, and never really wished for more travel apart from at the end of the day where arm pump starts to get to you. Everybody thinks I'm crazy for doing it but if you take the time to set it up properly with enough support etc it can hit anything fine...

12/10/2025 9:29am I believe they already had the small atleast for the enduro. The xl is new though i think. I'm 5'9" and was on the medium. With how long the chainstays are and my terrain i probably could have sized down to the small. Its a burly bike that wants to go fast but felt pretty big on flow trails.

12/9/2025 4:30pm Yup, this thread is what brought me to Vital. So far I've just enjoyed reading, but with the impending closure, I decided it was worth making an account to cast my vote for annual versions of the tech-rumors thread.

12/3/2025 12:34pm New thread each year like the race thread. Pin it to the top section. Jan 1 each year force the start of the new thread and un-pin the old thread. Seems simple. Kinda scratching my head how one thread with 1000 pages is more resources than 10 threads with 100 pages. Content is content and traffic is traffic is it not?

12/3/2025 12:34pm @sspomer I totally get your decision from a web resourcing point of view. Things get really expensive really quick when you need to tack on more power. A lot of cloud hosting providers price exponentially instead of linearly. That being said, I think not pinning a v2 and keeping this way of chatting about rumors is a mistake. This thread works because it allows for banter along side rumors I wouldn't ever care about. Prime example is the Santa Cruz Vala, a bike I have negative interest in. However that did prompt the carcinization of bike suspension discussion (that prompted...
