Dang that bike looks rad. I love the versatility of the three pivot locations if it really is as easy as just swapping a bolt trailside. Having the option to go from say 135-160mm vs 165-190mm of travel would be neat, too. I'll have to bug Chris to see about getting a test bike in the coming months...

It may be a long shot but seeing companies/people experiment with steel chainstays, adding extra weight, or more flex to a frame (Danny Harts GT) it would really be cool if companies started advancing in steel/chromoly frames for bigger bikes and trail bikes. At this point theyre the same weight as a lot of carbon framed builds. With CNCing and 3D printing we could have some cool bikes. I was just day dreaming of a Delta link frame but made from steel. Raw too. 🤤

It works as advertised for the most part. There are still scenarios where pedal kickback can be encountered, but they should be pretty rare. Let's consider the current generation Nomad for an example. The suspension has to compress about 80mm to get 18 degrees of pedal kickback. Because you are always guaranteed the same amount of slack in the hub, on any compression smaller than this it does make pedal kickback impossible to encounter. If you are compressing your suspension more than 80mm, it then becomes a question of how fast is the shock moving when you hit the 80mm...

For those of us who don't have the privilege of being in Europe, finding 37mm seals was absurdly hard prior to the Mezzer coming out. SKF, for example, didn't offer anything. We found a couple sets on international ebay but those either didn't work out or the supply ran out quickly. You're saying I could have walked down to the neares "o-ring store" and walked out with a 37mm seal kit? Really?

Once again BOS is intentionally choosing a pointless stanchion size for the sole purpose of fucking up the few customers who were willing to give them a shot and try something new when BOS inevitably folds the MTB side of the business.. There's several options on the market from seemingly stable, boutique suspension manufacturers, whether it's just dampers or full forks/shocks. I don't know why you'd pick the one that launches a product on a Monday and ceases to support it by Thursday, but instead of choosing something like a 35, 36 or 38mm stanchion on the forks which would...

Personally as someone who is tired of seeing pastel painted bikes, Kashima or Black stanchions, I welcome something that makes me think of the era of mountain bikes when bikes had sick paint jobs from the factory, 27.5 was new, 1X was becoming a thing. Enduro was new as well. I dig em. Probably still better than X Fusion.

On average you'd have less kick, however there's always the chance your hub is up against its point of engagement and you'd get that kick right away.

On the note of disengaging hubs and pedal kick, so long as whatever drive mechanism you have can automatically engage when you pedal forwards, it's impossible to prevent it from causing pedal kick. The drive mechanism, whether it be hub or BB based, can't differentiate between the chain getting pulled on due to you pedaling and the chain getting pulled on from the suspension compressing. Riding backwards is a little different in that you can use the fact that the hub is rotating backwards relative to the axle to disengage the hub.

I'm curious how the mechanism differs from Tairin's current hubs.

I'll bite. I don't feel we're really seeing bikes eek up in travel but we are sometimes seeing more product offerings and certain models gain more travel which may make it feel this way. Put another way, I'm not riding a longer travel bike now than I was 6-7 (10?) years ago as my daily driver, and I bet if we dug into the Vital Rider Survey data or similar we'd find the mix of what people ride hasn't changed much either. Yeah, the amount of the previous generation stumpjumpers with chrome stanchions I see at my local trails is crazy, I think those years they were like $2500 and available at all our local bike shops. Sort of feel bumping the spec a bit and the price will probably hurt them a bit on that front.

It seems like 2.5lb is about the average weight penalty for an aluminum frame without the frame being a flimsy soda can. Adding in frame storage is probably a massive weight penalty too.

What I find confusing about the new Stumpjumpers is they offer it in a coil version with a 27.5 wheel and they've corrected geo for the smaller wheel using the upper link just like with the previous Stumpjumper, which significantly reduces progression. So the most linear bike in the entire lineup comes with a coil.
