this press release i just received seemed pretty tech but maybe it belongs in the geometry thread. i'll start here... I am reaching out to you because I believe your audience would be interested in our company's launch in early May and the two new products we're launching with, the Cardio Speeder and the Super-E. These are the first-ever "procumbent flying position" electric bikes on the market. The procumbent flying position, a new riding position invented by Martoni CEO, Marty Williams, is a posture that combines ergonomic riding with speed. On a procumbent bike, there is no saddle; riders step...

THE LIST. Okay, here's the updated post-Covid bike brand graveyard list from this thread. Let me know if I'm missing anyone. Arguably I could have included KTM motorcycles, but that doesn't really fit. We're an MTB website: 1. Kitsbow 2. Guerrilla Gravity 3. Ridefast Racing 4. Nukeproof/Ragley/Vitus/Chainreaction/Wiggle (Nukeproof maybe living again, in skeletal form?) 5. Blackspire 6. Eminent Cycles 7. BLine indoor MTB park in Calgary 8. Pole 9. Kona (back up and running mostly?) 10. Planet Cyclery/Colorado Cyclist 11. Stages Cycling 12. Tweedlove Events 13. Teton Gravity Research 14. Fat Tire Farm (iconic Portland Bike Shop) 15. Lama Cycles...

Amazing work Luis! I was always super stoked to work with you at Motion Instruments. Happy to see you have a system still giving you the data you need. Too bad System2 never saw daylight. After all of the R&D we put into it, getting it through to manufacturing and ready to ship, to have the rug pulled at the finish line was disappointing to many customers. Keep up the great work. This was an incredible story to read.

Welcome to the wild and wonderful world of the bike industry, where you get worked to death and paid next to nothing, but there are literal piles of new and lightly used parts, even parts falling out the cracks of the building. What parts are you running? Whatever's in the pile. At least until you get laid off next week.

Does SRAM do the hall lock mod different than shimano? Shimano you just put a washer between the B screw bumper and the derailleur so that it bottoms out when you tighten it. To get your wheel off, just loosen your derailleur. Pic of shimano for reference. Insert 1-2mm plastic washer where red line is. I didn’t remove the c clip and b screw bumper, I just cut my washer so I could open it and slide it in there.

My name is Luis Arraiz, I am a frame design engineer and specialize in bicycle vehicle dynamics, kinematics and geometry design. I was the founder of K9 Industries Ltd in 2005 in the UK. I worked at CSG (now Pon) from 2015-2023 where I was responsible for the geometry, kinematics and packaging for all the full suspension bikes both analogue and e-bikes for both Cannondale and GT bikes and also several GT hardtails. I introduced the concept of size specific geometry and kinematics for Cannondale dubbed “Proportional Response”. I am now back to the UK, where I am a senior...

Hey everyone, this is TJ. Tariffs aren't fixed to factory cost, or wholesale or retail. They're calculated based on the specific transaction price. The example we used is accurate for an ecomm purchase, shipped from our warehouse in Canada. If a retailer ordered the same short and we charged them half the price ($100), the same tariff percentage would apply, so tariffs would be $145 for a total cost to the retailer of $245. If the retailer sells that short to a customer and maintains their dollar margin the short would be $345 to the end user - however if...

My $8000 bike I bought a year ago with a clutch derailleur still sounds like garbage so I think they still need to work on it.

I did. But I still expect better. We are talking five figure bikes that can be solved with some clamps and mastic tape or a little oval thing. Why is that left to the customers to figure out where it goes?

Not really a tech rumour but a tech wish: since we’ve somewhat stabilized on geo development and are looking at new ways to innovate, can companies put more effort into silencing bikes? It’s kind of embarrassing that a $10k bike sounds like a shopping cart.

Starting to see some real head scratchers of pricing on complete bikes this year. Wondering if PMs and accountants have to price things a certain way despite logic. Check out the yeti SB140. https://yeticycles.com/en-us/bikes/sb140/kits We will use the non LR version for this comparison. Yeti actually has a pretty cool mechanical transmission build kit that uses an x0 crank, chain, and cassette, but the 90 series mechanical shifter and derailleur. This bike is $6600, it’s the T2 build. The next level up is the T3 which is the x0 transmission build. Every single part is the same, aside from shifter...

I originally posted a longer comment here but deleted it it read too much like a blog post, and I figured most folks wouldn't be into it. Still, I stand by the analysis, so if anyone’s curious (or wants to subject themselves to it), you can read it here: https://jeffbrines.com/2025/04/17/why-did-revel-maybe-go-bankrupt/ For context: $8M at 8% interest is $640K annually. That’s a serious cost (even if its a "spike" in the debt due to inventory or other reasons)—especially if you're carrying ~30 employees spread across continents. Even assuming $2K in gross profit per bike (which they likely weren’t making), you’d need...

Yes. We had a standard that did not require threads to be cut into either frames *or* the calipers themselves. Roach a thread and you don't need to repair a frame, replace a caliper, or bleed your brake line -- just replace a cheap aluminum adapter. And don't get me started on how many slightly different lengths of flat-mount brake bolts are out there because every different chainstay depth requires a different bolt. Flat-mount brakes: brought to you by the same minds that think thru-headset cable/hose routing is a perfectly fine idea.

Thank you for not doing this as a slideshow... So much easier to simply scroll as opposed to look, click, and wait.. It should be interesting to see what else Odyssey brings to the table.. The Thunderbolt cranks on that Fairdale is something my DJ needs..
