snake must have bit Finn too. DNS Q2

Looks like Dak has had an issue in Q2, not registering times past split 2.

If we had the stats of other sports, someone could tell us what the most DNF's in a qualifying session has been in the past, the average on old format & the average on new format.
Looks like way more DNF's than I've seen in the past.

First guy to not make it thru q1 6 seconds off the fastest time.  Tech and fresh sections has caused a bit of separation (especially for top 3).  But the times are still insanely tight.

For those riders gearing up for q2 you’d think the team is probably even more of a factor on a track like this.  The teams that can really scout q1 are going to have a big advantage when the margins are going to be so small.

30 elite men riders to finals within 5.7 seconds of each other. top 3 fastest within .775. racing is just so competitive now.

I assume it's a 1 & done prize?  Like if a guy or girl won it back to back races? Or if a guy & girl win at the same round, only the girl wins it because she did it first?

Question for all you guys who've spent time in the racing scene... Do the top guys tend to pull their hardware out whenever possible from surgeries? Or do they leave it in hoping it stays stronger than before... And risk the re-injury or potential shattering caused by hardware?

Particularly for collarbone... I feel like given superior medical care and rehab they would opt for taking it out but... At the same time its usually seen as weaker/compromised after the initial break. Not sure how top pros see it. Risk vs reward etc.

Luck as innn mechanical? I feel the sudden, pressing urge to ask what rims they are running this year.

His tire looks like a 2.1 semi-slick in the photo...but sure it's just optical illusion.

As often happens, there's conveniently a thread for this exact question: https://www.vitalmtb.com/forums/hub/do-pros-remove-their-hardware-post-surgery-also-did-you [Editor's Note: after posting this I realized you were also the one to start that thread]

I saw Jackson's winning Q1 time was 3:42.221, which seemed longer than normal for VDS, so just for fun I looked up an old time from "back in the day." Gwin's winning time from 2011 was 3:10.356, which is WAY quicker. Over 30 seconds quicker. So it's not just my eyes, the track does traverse a lot more. Seems like that hasn't made it safe by any means, but as others have mentioned, the mega pressurized new format may have something to do with that.

That is A LOT! Has the start gate been moved sine 2011, or is it still in the same place?

Maybe add racers who got injured like Ollie, Amaury and Anna to give a more complete picture?
