I mean it was just the old school way of adding volume tokens. Plus oil actually lubricated the forks better so it served a purpose. I wish we'd see more forks with greater lubricating bath volumes again. I'd absolutely take the weight for the huge loss in friction.

It was amazing during my time with Marzocchi how many times I had to explai that raising the oil level did not mean changing the oil weight.. I would say raise the oil height by 5mm and 9 times out of 10 the response would be, "I put in 10wt oil.." That air space was a secondary spring. So, yes, adding oil was the same as adding a token today..
The absolute best was seeing a cartridge split open when someone decided 20wt oil was the answer.. Pushing peanut butter through a pin hole..
Unless the market gets over the extra weight of the old oil bath forks, I don't see that returning. Even if they did perform better and had longer service intervals..

Seems odd that the rest of their stuff is Canfield CBF..then they do a ti crab link??? Ti CBF would be on brand. This looks like they just had some rando Asian factory knock up catalog ti crab link.

Might be weight/contruction considerations, CBF require more pivots and a complete rear triangle. So an extra tube, 2 links and a yoke extra essentially
It's not super intricate, it doesn't have a preloadable topcap (uses a standard air topcap), rather it relies on correctly sized springs.
It's in a set of RS Revelations, the length of the stanchions meant that the usual 300-305mm Z1, MRP, Selva springs were too long so I needed to shorten them.
Made the plunger shaft out of a piece of titanium round bar I had laying around.
Used a B1 seal head as the plunger guide. I machined a new ID journal and modified a DU eyelet bushing for the plunger shaft to run on.
Lower spring guide/perch is made from acetal. Upper is aluminium with a small acetal sleeve.
I calculated my desirable spring rate by cross referencing a couple of different spring design calculators and ended up with a variety of different spring rates ranging from approx 8Nm - 12Nm at the required lengths I needed for 155 - 165mm travel.

I prefer Vital because people are allowed to have different opinions here—most people seem to remember we’re just talking about expensive toys for grownups on this site. I can’t go to pinkbike anymore because of the holier-than-thou attitude on all topics, and if you don’t agree you are treated like a leper. I don’t have extreme opinions by any means, but it feels like I do on PB since everyone’s reaction there is so vitriolic.

The irony of claiming PB is filled with virtue signalers, while simultaneously saying Vital is better than PB.
Both sites have their differences and are staples.
It was me that initially said people here seem to be better. After then starting another thread in an attempt to stop constant derails the attitude of some contributors made it very clear things are no different here to Pinkbike. People are people, good and bad everywhere.
Some people even go so low as to make comments that others then find it distressing to read over the World Champs weekend! That weekend of all weekends! That's just an example that was brought to my attention of how self centred and inconsiderate some people can be! 🤣
Edit; Not that you would, but careful you don't be seen to agree with my divergence from the pack. You may also get cancelled (despite seeing a poll somewhere that seemed to show that 50% of people agreed with my stance). 🤣🤷♂️

Great video on using oil volume in coil fork.(Sorry to derail tech rumors)

Sorry for the continuation of that derail.
I have an MRP Ribbon coil and I play around with oil weights a fair amount depending on ride characteristics and time of year (ambient temps). It can make a surprising difference to how a fork rides.

Sure you have a point, admittedly there’s irony there. But I’m resolute that I would rather voice my opinion and face those that differ from my own here than at PB. I honestly think there’s a different, less self-adulating while ostracizing forum culture here. And it’s fine if you don’t agree.
Sure looks like it could fit a bosch shaped touch screen. I can certainly see them making the lugs and someone else doing the rest of the work. If you look into the work cascade does outside of the mtb world, they seem well equipped to do this kind of work at scale.

They have another Avinox release in January, but could they also still release new Bosch frames concurrently? I think diversity is good but it's a lot to manage for a small operation. A lugged frame sure is sexy and from Crestline would be top notch.

Why do companies not make coil forks with progressive coil springs like how CC/DVO/MRP have done for their rear shocks? It feels wonderful for those who are about that. At least as far as rear shocks go. But I have yet to buy a coil fork because I love a lot of progression and I worry Id get one and there would definitely be very little support.

Coil forks inherently behave very differently to coil shocks, simply because the shock is driven by some kind of linkage that greatly affects how it feels in different sections of the stroke whereas the fork is 1 to 1 in terms of wheel travel to fork stroke (the stroke IS the travel). Coil forks ramp up a fair bit more than you'd think, reading all the "coil is linear" comments. "Linear" doesn't mean that it lacks ramp...it just means that it doesn't get PROGRESSIVELY harder to compress. You still need way more force to compress the last bit of coil travel compared to the first. I don't feel like there's a huge need for progressive fork springs, but some kind of HBO device would indeed be cool...especially if it could kick in quite early in the stroke to be used to add mid-to-end stroke support while running a lighter coil...
I've tried a lot of the coil forks on the market and I feel like HBO/air bottomouts/etc are generally unneeded for the type of rider that coil is suited for. The air trapped in the lowers can be used to adjust some level of progression, but IMO neither HBO or the other options really justify their tradeoffs.
If you try too hard to make a coil fork as progressive (or close to) as an air fork then you end up with a heavy fork that feels like an air fork. I would personally prefer conversions that keep the nature of coil as close as possible without pulling in the drawbacks of a second damper or airspring, which are largely unneeded for most. Ohlins has an interesting solution using a spacer on one side to reduce lower volume and IMO it works well, but oil should be usable also as previously mentioned. Anything else is added complexity, friction, weight, and temperature sensitivity with little added benefit IMO

TL;DR This might be Chris Canfield's new CF1 system, that is similar to a horts link with the cbf magic.
I did some thorough research of Chris' Patents and Applications after seeing this, because it defienetly is not CF3 or Standard CBF, and it is not the CFZero that he has a pending applicaton for. But it could be the CF1 listed on the suspension formulas website that says it's coming on "Hellion" bikes, that there are no public photos of yet. It looks like a Vampire because it likely is without the adjustable pivot point/travel.
Yeah its the same but not the same. Really only minor aesthetic differences and Reverse branding. Assume identical functionality. Still made by SB One hence the “colab” in the product name. Looks sick in silver though but I already have G3C 😁

Ran into Troydon last month, they are switching to DJI only.

Good timing, as Canfield just posted about the “new 2026 Tilt and Lithium” coming at Outerbike in October.

Is Cascade cooking up a lug/tube e-bike?

This is a messageboard, Pinkbike has comments on their articles. Zingers over there, dear diary and super breakdowns over here.
Cant forget the occasional shit posting happening here as well.
Carcinization over here

Zingers, puns, and one liners vs actual conversation.. Not always on topic, but still conversation..

For all you free riders. Looks amazing but a bit steep of a price.
Bummed Specialized didn’t include this $3500 limited edition drivetrain on that Levo.

You can destroy 3 GX DH derailleurs or 4 Zee derailleurs for that price 😆

Looks to be pretty much a copy of the SB One G3C chain tensioner that's been available for a few years now.
