Gates also sponsors the teams that are running the gearbox / belt. I suspect cash was involved, not just product.

Everybody serving the gearbox coolaid and how ebikes are getting them and how that will trickle down to pedal bikes, remember that the Avinox and Gaobao or whatever they are called have a CVT gearbox using two electric motors. That kind of a "gearbox" (integrated variable transmission to be precise) is wholly incompatible with bikes that do not have batteries. The only viable gearbox option covering both ebikes and bikes is the Pinion which is, functionally (speaking in volumes), non existent in both camps. As @Shinook and @Uncle Cliffy have said, the future has been promised for years now with...

FWIW regarding upcoming gearbox ebikes and trickledown to classic bikes, it's a big no. The way these gearbox concepts from Avinox and Gobao work requires an electric motor, so it's a no go for a non electric bicycle. As for shifters, Pinion has electric shifting via triggers and Effigear always supported trigger shifting, but brings it's own problems in regards to shifting with it. Regardless if the benefits it's quite likely the current crop of gearboxes would indeed be a no go for the average rider based on the limitations they bring with them.

I am going to be completely transparent here in that I work for FSA, but I will say I worked really hard on making the 31.8 40mm Gradient alloy bar one of the most compliant on the market. and here is the proof: (chart from PB article)

I am really drawn to zero protection ( ! ) and I enjoy the long hotseat sessions (they’re rare) but I have to agree this idea got an audible “i don’t hate it” from me when I heard it. I don’t think the current setup is bad but I’m pretty into DH racing. If the word is it’d make for a more compelling story to more people I WILL ALLOW IT. Also: if you’re gonna be the guy who signs the decree banning jr women from hitting a jump, I’m gonna need to see footage of you jumping it.

The electronic suspension/high pivot/stand up and pedal convo is the dumbest thing to happen to tech rumors in a long time. Banal, illogical, myopic.

I don't know if I could put a number on it for how long. But yeah, I think if you worked on it for 5 days and had some background in setup and bike mechanic skills, you can figure it out. BYB is prob the most user-friendly to start with. The hardest part is mounting sensors and the linkage ratio for the rear axle information. Nick from @Downamics will have his book out soon, which will be a total unlock for all of us to take data setup to the next level. https://www.datadrivendescents.com/ This podcast with the late Dave Garland...

While piston rollback is mostly determined by caliper seal groove design, moving more fluid definitely helps for the piston to retract more easily and faster.

I kind of agree that the music hasn't hit as hard lately, but that is based on my personal preferences. Also I like Vital polls. I do however, disagree that a poll should decide their music. Part of what makes Sleeper so good, is you'll never know what video style you're going to get, and that is based on the filmers knowing the vibe and the shots they got. Democracy is cool, but art decided by democratic votes won't be as good. That's how you get grey paint on walls and only silver and black cars. They are the least...

I would tend to agree. I liked mine a lot! The main appeal for me is the price being a good $50-80 cheaper than most of the competitors and deep discounts easy to come by. Though for an updated one, I would love to see pads that don’t rattle, easier and more modern bleed, and more usable adjustments but not at the cost of raising the price. That’s where I think the Hayes really shines. It looks a little more angled parallel to the bar (similar to SRAM) than the currently generation brake no?
