3/5/2026 10:24am If I'm worried about alignment I throw the pads back in before pressing them out. I use the Birzman piston press (just the lever one) and haven't run into issues. If I'm doing one piston at a time, I choke up on the grip and push flat instead of levering the pistons out. https://www.birzman.com/products_2.php?uID=2&cID=4&Key=135

3/5/2026 10:16am I worked on advocacy for the 15 minute city concept, and can tell you that literally no one has actually proposed restricting travel. That idea is a "bUt OuR fReEdUmB" talking point aimed at people who do their own "research".

3/5/2026 10:16am I believe that the idea behind 15 minute cities wasn't to restrict travel, but to lay out cities where you don't need to travel more than 15 minutes to get what you need. But, in most American cities, a 15 minute drive takes at least 30 minutes and a 15 minute walk is considered to be inhumane.

3/3/2026 10:51am I use SRAM dot grease, but as others have reported in this thread whether any lube is needed is questionable. If you didn't already, then centering the rotor and pads is also important. There was a hope video that showed using a small screwdriver behind the pad that needs to be moved closer to the disc whilst pumping the brake. I find this works really well and makes sure that the pads contact the rotor at the same time on both sides.

3/3/2026 10:48am With the global bicycle market coalescing around “mobility solutions” as the future profit center the American response that you are “afraid to ride to work” is just about all the economic insight needed to understand why this thread will soon be 150 pages long. The number of Americans I know who have held pro dh licenses but are hesitant riding a bicycle from their own homes to run an errand is staggeringly high. I mean, I get it, but I don’t have to like it. Before People For Bikes (the defacto US industry trade lobbying group) became embroiled nonstop in...

2/25/2026 3:00pm For both brands, you should always buy the most expensive chain they sell, so XX and XTR as the harder coatings on them often double to triple the usage you can get out of them, more than offsetting the cost increase. Zero friction cycling has the data, but XX flat top chains in particular are the cheapest chain per mile you will find.

2/18/2026 8:23am I inferred that they tested the XTR's as a set with the XTR rotor, the SLX's as a set with the SLX rotor, Hayes' as a set with the Hayes rotor, Formula with Formula, etc... They then also tested with Sinter pads as control. They missed a few combinations and the hypothesis/method/apparatus/etc isn't described with technical rigor, so perhaps it wouldn't pass as a scientific paper, but it's not a scientific paper. I feel that I can make meaning of the results.

2/9/2026 2:17pm Could also be that its a modular design like the Orbea. The lower shock mount being a bolt-on piece would make changing travel fairly easy.

2/5/2026 11:35am Bicycles only appear to be luxury toys because of the way high end bikes are marketed. All bicycles are incredibly simple to work on(hence why bike mechanics get paid sub-living wages) and essentially last forever with the most basic maintenance(hence why the bike industry has shifted so heavily to rapid “obsolescence” in a effort to show growth on year over year P+L’s ) A 30 year old bicycle and a brand new bicycle use different interface standards and tools- but a 30 year old bike and a 50 year old bike are both absolutely fine transportation or recreation for 90%...

2/5/2026 10:33am This is why we did not want too many French riders at the beginning. The team is American : the team principal, Elton Julian, is American/Ecuadorian. We have a workshop in Concord (North Carolina), with the GT racing cars, two trucks etc. Team also has one workshop in Barcelona, which is our base when we race in Europe, also with some race cars, truck, tools. DS always had this international culture : in the crew we have some Portuguese OR Brazilian engineers, Portuguese, Spanish or English mechanics etc. Yes I am French and living in the Alps between races, but...
