lando Added a reply to Mountain Bike Consumer - New Product Vitriol

Part of the vitriol or maybe just resistance to believe what you read, is that there are far too many "journalists" in the bike space that automatically endorse every product that comes out. While we definitely live in a great time when it comes to high-quality products, every new product isn't perfect, and not every product suits all situations. As...

The current Range VLT is great. 50 lbs, 170/160, good kinematics for solid pop and jive yet still with a high pivot (mid pivot) that lets you plow. I like that for the 50lb mark. The prior gen range VLT at 60 lbs was a good mauler at 180/170 but not much fun to throw around. I’d love to keep full power 170/160 but shave it down to 45 lbs.

Without any kind of fast charging available the Bosch SX system paired with the 400wh is not making any possible sense, just go CX / 600wh and detune to get better range at this point. TQ HPR60 with the 580wh is ahead of the whole SL segment, we need more bikes with this system.

E-bikes have always been about gonzo downhill madness for me and my crew. Nothing mellow about em!

Due to the motor. Also, most people drop their seats to some degree on steep technical climbing on e-bikes. A steep seatube angle isn’t as important when you have a motor.

This is getting a lot of hate over on Rob's forum, but I love the idea. If we are flirting with Surron levels of power, we need Surron levels of range.

You're missing the point. For a two pound penalty you can have double the range. You can set your avinox to a low eco mode and have the same gentle assistance. The first time you try and go on a ride with your full power ebike friends on your TQ you'll understand that it just makes so much more sense to have a bike that can do both

I disagree that it's a small situation--the new Optic is a really fun bike. It's weird that the Forbidden Druid gets tons of love, but the new Optic hasn't gained traction. You need to ride one to understand it. It manages to chew up chunk with the high pivot, but it remains light and lively due to its trail bike...

Here's my take on how to select power. If you want to ride the normal, bike-specific trails you're used to pedaling, an SL or mid-powered bike will probably suit your wants/needs. If you're looking to venture out to new zones, explore, and/or ride trails that you could never make it up without hiking, full power is probably what you're after...

As an e-biker, I believe the tagline to be true and I won’t say anything other than “this is not for me.”

The line of allowable motor assist has hereby been moved to include a very small motor. -Pious Pedal Puritans The ebike equivalent of shaking the bed. "Just the tip, just for a second, just to see how it feels."

To each his own. The good news is that in the next 5 years, I imagine we’ll have full power/full range batteries that are close to what a Relay weighs. For those who want more of a motorless experience, they can detune their bikes; anyone who wants more power can have it. We’re going to have our cake and eat...

Gotta agree with AndheM—the ride quality difference from my previous gen Norco Range to my current Bullit was an eye-opener. And I liked how the Range rode. I’ve definitely been of the opinion that you adapt to the bike as it becomes your normal ride. Going back to a 34 pound trail bike feels almost scary at speed once you’re...
