I want more of a mtb feel. Not interested in pedal throttle. At all. Did that last week in SantaCruz and felt like a douche (not that DJI people are, just how I felt)on a bike I was trying. I was going to buy a new Crestline but decided no, rather ride my Relay as long as it is working! Or until some real mtb company builds something similar but better.

Race Face is owned by Fox, so they're just as much The Competition as Shimano is.

First generation Avinox bikes were already a foot-throttle compared to everything else on the market. 1000w+ of output with less than 150w of input is no longer a mountain bike in any meaningful way. Doing a sustained 32km/hr up the Blackcomb access road shouldn't be possible without pro-Tour legs and lungs on you. These bikes are going to be an absolute menace on shared climb trails.

Well, for a few glorious moments all high end bicycles had a 622 bead diameter over all disciplines. I know road bikes are hardly pioneers of innovation these days, but they've been settled on 622 (700c) for over 100 years. Gotta be something in that, surely?

There are already those issues with the wired in version of AXS and Di2 derailleurs on ebikes, it's actually obnoxious to work on them because of it. An interesting rhetorical question about CVTs and MGUs coming into this space is when do these "bicycles" stop being "bicycles"? Automatic shifting and the removal of manual control seem to me like the point where bicycles are no longer bicycles. We as a community and as an industry should probably draw those lines before we get too much further from where we are now. I'll stop my pseudo-philosophical ramblings here

Bingo! Right now there are very very few 32ers out in the wild, so the collective outcry feels more tribal than based on any experience. It'll be interesting to see how perceptions change over the next year as more 32" bikes get ridden. There's a lot of ideas being bandied about regarding 32" wheels that are given credibility as "science" that sound right as long as no counterpoint is presented. Tyre diameter is dependent on tyre size so it makes no sense to call wheelsize anything other than rim diameter, i.e. there's no such thing as 29er wheels.

I just want to be like some of my friends who don’t analyze every detail of their bike. They just smoke me, while I’m obsessing over brake lever angle, +/- a PSI and if I’m getting enough carbs per hour.

This, 800% assist is the problem. Not 150nm or 1500 watts. If Avinox had 150 & 1500 numbers like today but only the 400% assist of Bosch . I’d be a big fan. But at 800+% that’s just not something I think moved the industry forward. And certainly doesn’t help e-bikes or regular bikes for that matter gain access to trail systems not currently available to bikes or trail systems under consideration for allowing bikes (like here in Dgo)

Still yet to se a 32inch bike that doesn't look like complete garbage. Designers are shoehorning them into bikes and still using current wheelbases and dimensions so the proportions are all wrong. I could see a 27.5/29/30.5 scheme working with choice based on frame size. XS bikes get 27.5. S, M and L get 29 or 29/27.5 mullets. XL and L get 30.5 or 30.5/29 mullets. 32s go in the bin. Ideally fork manufactures would offer specific lowers for each wheel size.

These segmentation activities are just what the bike industry needed after emerging from post-covid inventory challenges and begin to enter supply chain pressures caused by the gulf war.

And 43 watts is basically the power you put out by just letting the weight of your leg push the pedal. Almost no effort at all.

So basically, the M2S puts out almost as much power at 43w of rider power as the CX5 puts out with 150w. That's lunacy. Foot throttle, as you said.

I get the sentiment of what you're saying... but I would contend that the avinox motors have throttles... you just operate them by moving your feet. 460w of output with 25w of input, 800w of output with 100w of input and max power being delivered at 160w of rider input, is not pedal assist. It is pedal driven throttle assist.

No, I've already seen a NZ programmed Avinox gen 1 in person and it absolutely is dangerous. Going over 50km/h without proper helmet and protective gear, which is what that bike was doing, is genuinely dangerous to the rider as well as the other trail users they will encounter. It already is problematic. Semi-Relevantly to this discussion; a mother in California is facing jail time for purchasing her son a Surron after he ran into an 81 year old and sent them to critical care. I believe she is facing up to 8 years in jail. Like I said previously...

That's why they are releasing this now: "Hey boss, can we start teasing the new goods? Not yet, gotta wait until thegromit orders the current version...."

Pbike rumouring size specific wheel size, seems very anti profit margin and a disaster for multiple skus and an aftermarket disaster
