Quick anecdote: I’ve convinced myself to race the MSC DH at Targhee, and the Geometron G1 I pieced together isn’t quite what I hoped it would be, at least not yet. Hence, I started looking for a proper DH bike that wouldn’t break the bank and every bike that was in my budget is out of stock. Then I started shopping for a handful of other DH-adjacent items, shoes, pants, gear, etc., and had the same reaction: inventory feels noticeably lighter across the board. And again, bargain pricing also seems much harder to find. Really hard, actually, which I guess...

just saw this in mojo suspension story. Looks like some kind of dual spring setup for fine tuning/recreating individual dual rate spring curve. I think Dave Garland did something like this for the boxxer quite some years ago.

Ok, so maybe not entirely, but I think a healthy chunk of the ebike market will go that way. I don't own one yet, so really just gaging by the people I see riding ebs around here. Most can't handle maintenance of any kind, so I suspect this will be their preferred option. Probably not for low-power SL bikes though.

I’m thinking about starting a new poll thread. It will be called “would you rather” The options will be: Would you rather take the time to actually read and learn about “ecvt’s” in regards to bikes? Orrrrrrrr…. Would you rather smash up an incandescent light bulb and smash the shards into your eyeballs? This thread is getting exhausting with gearbox nerds.

I hope the Supre Drive or similar concept shows back up in the future.

Is that the rule? Are there rules? Because catalog snaps have happened heaps of times in the OG thread. Obviously don’t lose your job - but these are just brands owned by banks / syndicates / second generation founders nepo kids - and we are the 0.01% who care to see this stuff. newschoolers.com has an epic next year gear thread where everyone is sharing catalog snaps and tradeshow samples. I think this audience is hyper niche and most of the stuff on this thread never makes it past this group of weirdos. I’m sure bike brand product managers lurk...

Looking at the recent updates to the Super Deluxe, Vivid, Zeb and Lyrik, as well as last year's refresh of the Domain and Psylo, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pike is nearing the end of its lifecycle (while the DJ will likely remain in the lineup). The question is whether the standard Pike will survive. The SID already covers travel up to 120 mm, and the Lyrik starts at 140 mm, so there’s a clear gap in the middle. Maybe RockShox will replace the current Pike with a new model designed specifically to fill that 120–140 mm segment.

The new fluid looks like a great bike, just like the last one, but man 35#’s for a 130mm bike is chonky. I know from personally owning aluminum norcos they are not lightweights, but that new lyrik is pretty heavy too. Do we really need a lyrik on a 140mm forked bike? Pike chassis seems totally suitable for this situation.

Not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed, but I recently wrote down every bike that I’ve owned (and can remember) in a spreadsheet. Across genres including kid bikes, mountain (DH, XC, Trail), road/gravel, BMX, and dirt jumpers, I have owned 102 bikes. Some of these are just new frames with swapped over parts, but I consider that a different bike for this purpose. I might have a problem. The most bikes by far are BMX (26) and DJ (19), as I was a 6 night a week skatepark kid growing up. I wish my skills were better for...

It's a shame there is no way to adjust the height of your handlebars.If you bike's stack is 10mm lower than you'd like you just have to put up with it.It's really unfortunate.

yep absolutely. we might be at another rung in the ladder of geo evolution here. a really long wheelbase and high stack feels amazing for plowing straightline chunk, sleeps etc. but you loose some agility and an active riding style over the front is harder (i really enjoy loading up the front wheel and doing sharp cutty turns). But also, we're used to "last gen" geo concepts (short wheelbase low stack) and need to learn new riding styles. it’s dependent on terrain and rider height/body proportions too of course.

The LT looks pretty rad. I actually think lower stack is the move, I got an XL Hightower 4 recently with a 658 stack and I had to lower the stem pretty far to get it to corner how I prefer. would rather have a 640ish stack and run a big riser bar. I'll look forwards to getting one on a 40% sale from Backcountry in 4 years... $8400 for a complete or $5k frame is indefensible for a non ebike IMO.
