What's up Team Suspension? I'm currently out at Sea Otter Europe, working on the coverage from today, I figured I'd drop this here first for you guys - KYB is coming to MTB! OK yeah it might have just been the way it was assembled - if theres a big enough change in temperature or altitude it can cause an increase in pressure. Also if the damper side has the nut tightened while fully extended, it will have some positive pressure from compressing it down to the air spring. Pressure in the lowers is almost always an air leak - the 34 SL/SC only has a single quad ring in the negative sealhead to keep the pressure in, but it is unusual for it to leak, especially in a new fork. If it comes back I would get Fox to look at it under warranty as its not normal. The other place it can leak is the footstud to the air shaft - there is a small o-ring there but it also needs loctite to help make a perfect seal. Again its weird to leak there but it can...

9/16/2026 4:35pm I have probably had over a dozen different front forks over the years and never experienced this issue with air in the lowers until this ‘26 Fox Factory 34SL. Can anyone explain why? I know it’s not just a Fox thing. What is new/different about these forks that make them susceptible?

MTB's have had it for years! The KYB SSS is just a marketing term for Speed Sensitive System. It's not really an actual thing, but rather Yamaha adopting an aggressive damper tune from their racing program and offering it to the masses as the standard production spec. Generally speaking, the media guys who test bikes are amateur racers so production MX suspension was always a bit on the soft side. Yamaha goes aggressive with the production-spec and voila! Test riders around the globe rejoice and report that it's the best suspension system out there!

I know this has been talked about a bunch but its kinda wild experiencing it yourself. Its amazing how much ramp the air in the fork lowers causes. I had my air cap off to change some volume spacers and I pushed down on the fork out of curiosity and it was difficult to get the fork to full compression with just the air in the lowers.

9/12/2026 11:20am I really like the 130mm 34SL with Grip X Not flexy at all and excellent dampening. Mine came with some air in lowers that caused it to ramp up at the end of the stroke. Once I bled that out, I’ve had no complaints.

The 34SL is a really great fork with GripX. The chassis is fairly stiff, and the weight is really impressive. It really suits xc-light trail, but it’s not the same as a stiffer trail fork. If you wanted stiffer you have lots of options, the 36SL is going to be really amazing if you want to point and shoot. The Helm is a great fork for this too.
