4/12/2026 8:05am I’ve said it a couple times so apologies if it’s a broken record . The problem for me isn’t 150nm, or 1500watts. It’s 800% assist . Humans fundamentally make different choices when things are easy vs. hard . I can maybe go 20mph uphill on a trail on my meat bike , but only for an instant, then I’m gassed . So I never do that . When there’s suddenly no disincentive (it being exhausting) the total time spent of people going 20mph on blind single track is going to be much higher, thus the probability of isssue increases. At...

4/12/2026 8:05am I feel like there’s probably some physics or science to show it’s likely not a big difference. But this just my gut reaction as I’ve had no time on any avinox bike but from what I’ve seen so far, the “eye test” paints a different picture of what the new avinox bikes are capable of doing. Though countless e bikes have boosted past me on the trails, the manner at which these new avinox ones rip up the trail just seems to be a whole nother level, even given the 20 mph cutoff. A little cringey but this paints a...

4/11/2026 10:44am It doesn't seem right to me that Amflow could be Fox's number one customer with what looks to be 6 build kits over 3 models all running Fox suspension. It may have started as a way to introduce their motor, but it seems to have taken on a bit of a life of it's own. It will be interesting to see there next move with so many companies spacing the motors, how will that affect the bike sales? When you are the only one with the most desired motor on the market, bikes will sell.. When we have 20 plus...

4/11/2026 10:44am I just really hope they’re not sacrificing the whole industry for a few good quarters because that’s kinda what it feels like with them flirting with higher and higher power numbers.

4/11/2026 10:41am Hopefully a new tempo! That bike looked like a ton of fun besides the headset cable junk. I feel like tons of people are moving towards 130-140mm bikes and ditching big enduros. They are missing out on that market currently. Side note: does it seem like commencal has been losing steam lately? From prob 2018-24ish they were releasing a ton of stuff and doing quick updates. Lots of press coverage also. Honestly I forgot what a new meta even looked like until I looked at their website today. Maybe the economy along with the 100 World Cup teams they title...

4/10/2026 12:26pm Curmudgeon moment incoming, my apologies: This is exactly the reason I don't give a shit about motocross or cars or a million other things. I 100% don't give a shit about numbers. "Oh, but this one can do 150nm of power!" Cool. I don't care. I don't ride a bike looking for the easiest way to do anything. Does it do 150nm of making my will to live stronger? Will it do a 30-second boost mode of shutting my brain off? Is it 1300W of power that'll die in a year and completely brick the bike for two months while...

4/10/2026 12:26pm My buddy asked this morning what I thought about all this stuff, and my response was: this feels like a bunch of marketing numbers BS, like the bad old days when one of the key highlights of a new bike launch was how much it weighed. (Nevermind those numbers were often massaged - I remember instances where there was fine print about it being an unpainted frame, no tubes/sealant, and no pedals.) The power wars feels like it's purely about having a bigger number to have in marketing stuff, to appeal to uneducated consumers... to try to distill the product...

4/10/2026 12:25pm I think that'll be a popular rig in many parts of the US in the MST timezone, as well as for a number of my fellow northern Midwest folx. Can't speak to the rest of the globe. But I agree, their non-mtb offerings have been pretty damn compelling since the OGs returned.

4/10/2026 12:24pm A kona Unit is hardly of interest for most Mtb outlets anyway, that kind of bike has its own channels to be released, and I think that the brand is doing good in that "segment" the last few years, better than when it comes to "regular" or e-mtbs at least...

4/10/2026 9:55am I now have some time on my latest trail bike build (I got it after you started this thread), and I'd have to throw the new Propain Hugene into your mix here. 130 rear, 140 fork (I run mine with the Öhlins RXF36 m.3), it's a super fun bike that is a bit more relaxed and eager to take on rowdier trails than the numbers would suggest, while still feeling pretty snappy on the pedals. It sounds like it hits the mark exactly for how you formulated the question that started this thread (stepping down in travel from a Stumpy...

4/10/2026 9:53am Just give it a thumb throttle and call it a day. 800% "Assist" is just a joke. When the motor is doing more than 50% of the work you are being pushed. You are cosplaying a cyclist. These bikes shouldn't be called pedal assist, they should be called CosPeds.

4/10/2026 9:52am One argument that’s been lost on me is the claim that theirs still a speed limit on the bike , so it’s ok. There’s even a comparison above to the Tesla plaid cheetah mode. My perspective is that there’s also a big difference. Yes, you can take an insanely powerful Tesla out on the roads, but that’s inherently a structured environment. There’s signs , lanes, reflectors for the edge of the road, clear sight lines, etc. So if you’re gonna go do 120 in a Tesla you have at least some chance of predicating or seeing what all the other...

4/10/2026 9:51am I think of it like reverse harm reduction. Making an ep8 go 20mph on a climb took a LOT of effort (and time). That alone eliminates the risk of a high speed head on collision for the vast majority of e-bikers. If every cyclist can go 20mph in a single pedal stroke the probability of a serious collision starts to look pretty grim

4/10/2026 9:50am There are a ton of automotive regulations already, and at the end of the day, end users are responsible for their actions. Just like how Winchester isn't responsible for grandpa's hunting accident, bike and automotive manufacturers aren't responsible for the majority of crashes and incidents. That being said, E-bikes are getting out of control now, and stepping well over the "pedal assist" line into motorized vehicle territory. Unfortunately, there isn't a good solution for this, because even with regulation (gross who wants that) there are too many ways around it. The only way to actually regulate E bike motors and...

4/10/2026 9:49am bro, my measly ep8 eats drivetrain components like the cookie monster. We are gonna need D.I.D 520 sized dirtbike chains on these things soon. That is ridiculous power.
