8/29/2026 10:18am I have run two trail casing mid rears and one gravity casing soft rear. This latest trail casing mid rear is definitely wearing the fastest. The gravity casing showed some feathering of the side knobs at around 25 miles but no tears like the latest one. The first trail mid casing showed feathering around 50 miles and started tearing knobs around 80 miles and was done just past 100. These were ordered in May, July, and now August. If I was able to get acceptable (not asking for Conti level wear, just like 400-500 miles) wear rates out of them...

8/12/2026 10:35am I think you and I have already had this exact same conversation, but okay let's review my points again: 1. Lab tests ≠ absolute truth. Not all tests are created equal. People in these forums have repeatedly made the claim that radial tires roll slower than bias ply tires, but the tests they've shared to back up these claims ( example from Schwalbe's lab here) were performed on steel drums in a laboratory. Steel drums have been resoundingly proven to not be a reliable proxy for even smooth asphalt, let alone rough asphalt, gravel, or real world trail conditions. If...

7/29/2026 1:15pm Any questions about the DHX or updated DH casing let me know, both were my projects. In general the DHX does everything our current dry tires do, but has more capability for high load high speed conditions. I designed it to excel in the bike park oriented World Cup tracks but still not give up performance in soft or natural sections compared to current dry tires. Ideally I wanted to simply the racers’ tire choice: if it’s dry and fast- DHX, if it’s soft or mixed- HR3, if it’s wet- mud spike. The updated DH casing is pretty well explained...

7/28/2026 11:50am I did some digging and found a nice summary Maxxis Minion DHX — new gravity/DH tread aimed at dry, hardpack conditions: Bigger, blockier lugs than before for support and braking power at speed Tighter-spaced center tread for faster rolling on hardpack; bigger shoulder lugs for off-camber grip New L-shaped center-to-shoulder transition Positioned as a fast, dry/hardpack-focused tire — sits alongside the Assegai and DHR II, not replacing them New DH casing — reworked construction across the DH lineup: More rigid butyl bead insert (pinch-flat resistance) Wider casing overlap under the tread New sidewall cut-resistance material Claimed 20%+ gains in cornering...

7/23/2026 8:06am Idk whats going on in this forum lately. Amaury: I'm using radials. Schwalbe: our riders are all using radials. Us: no one's using radials. My personal experience, riding them in every condition imaginable, including snow: the biggest improvement in mountain bike technology since we figured out 64 degree HTA could apply to non DH bikes.

6/30/2026 11:02am Have you tried running recommended pressure with 2 spacers? I wonder if that would give you the support you want without introducing harshness. I have found that 2 spacers is my max to maintain the comfort/plushness I prefer. I generally run no spacers, stock eyelet volume spacer, and 16mm sag (30%). This is the best for pure DH performance. It keeps the bike calmer and tracking better. The downside is it can be a less responsive and feeling slow on flatter, pump-heavy trails. I also have Genie Float X with LSC, and cranking that closed does help add some support.

6/29/2026 7:38am I think this has made my front tyre choice for bike park season pretty easy. I finally tested the Magic Mary Radial Gravity Ultra Soft against the Assegai DoubleDown MaxxGrip. The Mary was much smoother in the rough, had huge braking confidence, and came out 2.86 seconds quicker in my 15-run comparison. What surprised me most is that I do not think it gives anything away in rolling speed either. It was already edging ahead on the smoother, flatter opening section before grip really became a factor. It is going straight onto my DH bike for the season. I just...

6/29/2026 7:22am I’m on a Evo with the Float X Genie. 78kg ready to ride. Bike came with 0 bands installed. Felt nice but also felt like I was sitting too much into the travel. Added 1 band a made a small improvement but still deeper than I’d normally like. Up’d the pressure from recommended 200 to 210 but it just became harsh. Now running 2 bands but not loving it - feels like it’s lost the coil-like plushness. Think I’ll go back to 1 band and just accept that this does just sit more into the travel.

6/17/2026 8:41am I hear you on rider variance. For context, I’ve probably done around 200 laps of this trail, so my spread on it is usually pretty tight. That’s why the difference stood out to me more than expected.

6/17/2026 8:41am Penultimate test in this series. Very surprising difference between the High Roller 3 and the Assegai even when run with the same MaxxGrip compound and similar DD casing! Let me know your thoughts?

6/16/2026 8:20am Had a pretty big ride on the new 2.4 Trail Romy radial, just because it’s quite a bit shorter than the Albert I went up 1 psi, I’m impressed by the grip, after the first ride it measures 60mm knob to knob, gained 2mm from when freshly mounted. It rolls considerably faster than the Albert, I can make it drift/slide without forcing it with the brakes unlike the Albert, still great traction on tech/slippery climbs and great braking traction on the way down too, really nice tyre

6/8/2026 8:19am The thing is that I already have a wheelset with Racing Ray/Racing Ralph, I am searching for a secondary wheelset for more agressive riding in the mountain. I fear that Romy/Wicked Will won’t be a huge improvement, but I have never tried those I admit

6/3/2026 8:20am To what extent are you looking to trade speed for grip? Because it seems like you are trying to go from XC race tires, to almost DH tires (Assegai maxxgrip). Which imo is kind of weird, like kind of defeats the purpose of an xc bike, like I get that it can still be fun but... isn't an xc bike about speed? Maybe you want trail tires? Tires generally are built with 3 main aspects: Tread pattern, rubber compound, and casing. Rubber compound is the thing that literally grips the material it touches. Grippier compounds are generally slower; most rolling...
