The electronic suspension/high pivot/stand up and pedal convo is the dumbest thing to happen to tech rumors in a long time. Banal, illogical, myopic.

Nvidia and most chip designer companies operate based on the litography roadmap that the chipmaker have. We already know that updated 4nm, 3nm and 2nm chip are in various prototype & testing stage with planned rollout for well into 2029. So Nividia is only planning new generation based on the TSMC timeline. We will only know what the actual product spec (how much core, memory size, memory bus width, wattage and various speed) 3-6 months in advance which is usually 1 1/2+ year since the last top sku was launched. RTX 3090 was launched sept 2020 RTX 4090 was launched...

I mean it just came off as your typical fortune mag ceo jerk off interview. I will agree with and give props to trek’s investment in female athletes. Vali, Rachel, neff, Mosley. They have no issue funding around a female first and men second in mtb racing. for me reading the article explains a lot of how trek ended up in the shape it is today. But I agree burke doesn’t seem like a bad guy. But he is pretty full of himself and his views on things that ain’t got nothing to do with bikes. A couple of which...

I just stumbled on an interview with the CEO of Trek. https://fortune.com/2026/05/06/trek-ceo-john-burke-gen-z-tariffs-ai-nat… I only skimmed it but my initial reaction was "woah, tone deaf". Also, LMK if this was posted earlier and I missed - will delete if so.

Such a wild read, the idea of getting through 52 books a year by reading just the first sentence of each paragraph and using that to decide whether to read the rest is deeply disturbing.

These days* the main differences are BB's are often crappy plastic cups with narrow profile bearings pressed in to frames with poor tolerances, so they need retaining compound to hold them in. Headsets are more commonly alloy cups pressed in to better tolerance frames so they don't need the retaining compound to hold them in or take up variation in roundness. Or they don't have cups and the bearing sits directly on the frame. It isn't unheard of to loctite a headset cup in but its extremely rare and is a sign of a problem with the frame rather than...

Just one trail was wet, no puddles but drying out, had some off camber and polished tiny roots on the steeps both up and down and I feel it handled great, especially on the punchy climbs, very impressed with the traction there, all that at 30psi, 80kg rider

Any experience with it in the wet yet? I’m looking for a true all rounder that errs on the side of faster but isn’t going to be too sketchy over wet roots or when it’s a bit slimey without being a full mudder.

I just started listening to a whole podcast season that is about how outdoor gear, including camping, hiking, hunting, and even biking gear can trace a lot of its roots to the military. The Berry Amendment is a big reason why there is any domestic outdoor gear manufacturing industry at all. I've only started episode 2, but it's very interesting and I think a lot of people who are interested in this forum thread would think so too. https://articlesofinterest.substack.com/p/gear-chapter-1 It also goes into some of the sociology of how fashion developed for different outdoorsmen over the past few centuries and...

Would Strava sell you that data? I know they sell that data to Forestry England as they've whipped it out in a presentation on land access before. Strava/Garmin are logging like an appreciable % of all MTB rides.

I haven’t read proper economics for years but I’ll have to give that a read, I probably picked it up from an article or something, cheers for the recommendation. Anyway I’ll stop derailing the thread now!

Love posts like this. Broadly, I agree. I’ve always liked Valerie Ramey’s work on fiscal multipliers, especially in the context of defense spending, assuming that’s who you were referencing. The piece I think sometimes gets underweighted is the role of DoD spending in producing major dual-use breakthroughs. The internet and GPS are the obvious examples. Could those breakthroughs have happened through other channels with less waste? Absolutely. But it’s hard to argue that defense-funded R&D has not produced enormous civilian spillovers. Bringing it back to the topic at hand, I’m generally in favor of building more dynamic, redundant, and agile...

The point about defence spending having a positive affect on the rest of the economy- in my lectures this was talked about using the concept of the multiplier effect. This is the idea that if someone, ie the state, spends £1 on something then it increases national GDP by some amount because that’s been spent at a local supplier, who...

Yep you got it. Thanks for hanging on. It's a bit of a necessary evil when a item like tires has so many variables.

I’m pretty confused still. Am I right in saying each tyre has a value of each of the following? tread pattern ie MM, Albert Rubber compound ie. Soft, super soft Casing weight ie Trail, Gravity Radial vs standard Quality ie Pro vs Line? Size ie 2.4 vs 2.5, 29 vs 27.5
