11/2/2025 1:32am Alot of feelings in this thread. Was a good post and there were a few good counter points. Nothing else of value is likely to be added- would recommend locking.

10/31/2025 11:19am Are you training (focused training time not just ride time) 8-11 hrs per week (5-6 sessions) with specific goals? If yes then do an 80/20 plan of polarization with that 80% being Z2 and the 20% being a combo of threshold and high intensity. Due to the total volume of training the body can't recover from higher amounts of high intensity, so it's Z2 working at a level that has adaptations but doesn't prevent recovery from those very key high intensity sessions. These athletes will also shift that 80/20 (70/30 or 60/40) to lower Z2 and more focused intensity in...

10/30/2025 1:56pm Fair enough. I'm sure if someone is dedicated and using it as a recovery tool, sure - but they are probably already fit. Or as someone else mentioned, if you are injured and rehabbing - then yeah, its probably better than nothing. Anecdotally, the riders I know who now ride their ebikes almost exclusively have definitely lost fitness. Those same riders also now blast around everywhere in full boost mode the entire time. So...yeah. I like my ebike and its a fun toy, that's about it. (I also do not "train" or race, so this is all from someone who...

10/30/2025 12:02am What if we chopped the injured riders into dog food during the season, to help cover expenses for the series? Or if we required donations of sperm and eggs from riders, which could be sold off to the highest bidder? Another idea: We could ask the riders to choose one of their parents, and if they don't make the cut for finals at least once during the season, we feed that selected parent to a pack of starving dogs. My main concern here is how we can make this race series more profitable. I believe we can do it, as...

Indeed. I poopoo'ed tapered steerers and12x142, and I have no issue with Super Boost. Crow can be tasty when you season it right.

10/29/2025 6:49am Shimano's latest for their first 9 months compared to same period last year (Bicycle Division) *Sales up 5% *Operating income down 27% * Net profit (overall company) thus far is down 61% y/y. Commentary They are cautious on changes in trade policies around the world and "rising geopolitical risks" caused by prolonged international conflicts. They also cite a US economy that is showing signs of deceleration amid the "cooling sentiment due to rising prices stemming from tariff hikes and a slowdown in the labor market". With respect to bikes, specifically, they are noting "While the strong interest in bicycles continued...

10/29/2025 6:43am I think this depends a lot on your specific region and the market you plan to cater to, for a few reasons: 1. Who are you competing against? What do they offer? What can you do better or differently? What will make a customer choose your shop over the other options? 2. Are you trying to cover all the bases, from kids’ bikes to adults’, road, gravel, and mountain, entry-level to high-end? If so, it makes sense to get at least one brand that covers most of these, such as Giant, Trek, Specialized, Norco, etc. If you’re able to focus...

10/21/2025 9:01pm Those might be incongruent choices. The brands I would pick to run/stock a shop and the brands that I like or connect with most aren’t the same. Especially depending on location or target market. Transition would be a company I like and would consider bringing into a shop. Devinci and Knolly are companies I like, but would NOT bring into an American based shop outside of Washington and maybe the upper N.E. Specialized is a company I’m not always high on, but depending on shop location, might be a reasonable main line to run. Other contenders might be Yeti and...

10/21/2025 7:55pm Sorry in advanced for not directly answering the question: I second the idea that the answer is more specific to YOUR business' needs and not just what is cool to an internet forum. As a small or new shop my goal would be to choose a primary brand that is stable (hah, current times) and isn't going to compete against you (ie sell bikes online for less than your cost, or ship direct to your local client base). Primary brands also fill a store for less capital and sell to majority of your customer base regardless of brand name. "Cool"...

10/21/2025 1:53pm I think its great because it's not just a suspension book, but a chassis book so even though thetes a sepatate chapter for each topic, he treats the whole vehicle as a system and how each part is influenced by the rest. Each part isn't just theory but there are examples and real world demonstrations of just about every topic (like fork offset and head angle/rake). He was personally modifying bikes 40-50 years ago to test the stuff mtb guys are debating these days and collecting actual data on it. The type of thing I liked is explaining the impact...

10/21/2025 12:31pm People have been astroturfed into believing LLMs can do things they can't possibly do. There isn't going to be some utopia that exists in a post-AI world because AI simply can't do that much and there isn't a post-AI world where AI does everything. Yes, it's improving, but there is still a hard ceiling of what it is able to do and that ceiling is not going anywhere, nor are the numerous issues they face. In some industries, the product created by AI is OK and acceptable, think marketing for instance. Large scale data analytics is another one. These things...

10/19/2025 11:12pm I don't know if this was mentioned before, but Guardian bikes, that kids bike manufacturer that makes those really weird brakes that do the front and rear with one lever and cable, are pushing for bikes to have a 50% tarrif in the US. https://www.bicycleretailer.com/industry-news/2025/10/08/peopleforbikes… We should do what we can to get them to knock off the BS, I've sent an email about it personally. This would seriously wreck the bike market in the US, even for them.
