The last time I had a road bike I was hit by an SUV going 55mph.... also it snows.

DYAD on the Jekyll, Claymore and Trigger. I had a Claymore that I really liked, super fun bike. I would totally buy another if it came up, but I would also make sure to buy a spare DYAD to go with it - pretty sure no one services them anymore.

That is wild to me. Cool bikes I get the desire to support the project, but 4k for a frame? I would much sooner get a raaw.

I did until I cracked the frame in a crash. Canfield EPO built up as a 27.5+. Loved that bike, could ride even some of the rowdier trails in Phoenix with it.

Cool thread. I often have multiple bikes just so I can keep one rideable when the others are broken. Right now: 2006-ish SC Nomad 2016 Kona Precept 130 2003 SC Bullit 2002 SC V10.1 2005 SC V10.2 I just disassembled my 2020 Ibis Ripmo AF and selling off the parts.

https://youtu.be/VD94rOJMwiM?si=6RiS2FRKjRXKrFs8 That was my pseudo-scientific effort into the subject... I'll summarise it for those who don't want to click... It's basically me mouth breathing for 5 minutes, trying to see if I could use an eeb for training zone blocks. Tldr: you can and it's surprisingly easy. But ... Since making that video, I tried quite a few times off camera and ultimately gave up on it. So a little context, I don't have time to ride AND train separately. I quite like my rides to be taxing even if they don't confirm to a plan or training block based...

I'm not knocking what works for other people. If you are enjoying what you're doing, cool. The initial premise of this thread felt like another justification post for owning an ebike (others have pointed it out as well, so its not just me). It just feels weird when I hear people going on and on about the virtues of ebikes...

I think just from the people I know that ride an ebike the majority of the time, when they get back on a regular bike they say that its like riding on flat tires. Or riding through sand. And they forgot how much more effort it takes on a regular bike. Not sure how that equates to fitness but it seems to have an effect on strength. No doubt its still gotta keep you stronger and more fit than just sitting on the couch though. I think Its like what you were saying about how it depends on the way...

Fair enough. I'm sure if someone is dedicated and using it as a recovery tool, sure - but they are probably already fit. Or as someone else mentioned, if you are injured and rehabbing - then yeah, its probably better than nothing. Anecdotally, the riders I know who now ride their ebikes almost exclusively have definitely lost fitness. Those same...

Interesting. I have a Shimano motor in my Tazer, I don't have any issues with super steep climbs. Just requires a very different style - I liken it to how I would go easy throttle on a 4x4, just let the bike crawl up the trail. If you go into it full boost, sitting down, trying to blast up, then...

I was just speaking to more of what Rampage has become. When I see a rider post something like this, it makes me think they feel pressured on that second run to pull something big out: But I don't know these guys and I don't know what goes through their heads, so I could be way off like you said.

Because there is the potential to make money. Rampage is not geared towards people on this message board. It is aimed at the crowd who watch the viral Tik Tok/Insta hits, don't really understand mountain biking, and just want to see the spectacle of these guys throwing themselves off cliffs. The whole event made me nervous, like it does every...

I actually yelled at my TV (I don't ever do that) when he went for the double, you could clearly see he wasn't going to make it. That was rough to watch and I'm actually a little surprised the other competitors still wanted to drop in after that.
