Pretty sure this is 1998 or 1999. I was 14 or 15, and the relics aboard that dual slalom bike were awesome. Nokian front tire- Actually worse than a Kenda Hope rear disk with that thumb knob adjuster to adjust for heat, front v-brake that was super easy to set up because the braking surface on the Mammoth rim is like a mile tall. Speaking of that, I think that rim is the opposite of what some good wheels are doing now. More stiffness, deflection and weight in the front, flexy, crappy wheel in the rear. That White Brothers fork...

Shaums was my hero. I learned to bunny hop my Super 8 onto picnic tables just like him. I wish Peddle4life was still with us. He would have loved this thread. Sadly he passed away from multiple myeloma recently.

Was it Seven Springs 1998 when Shaums March collected money from the crowd to boost the DS course jump and snapped his crank on the landing? That may have been 1997.

Mt Snow NORBA National 1998. Best DH course I've ever ridden to this date. Forest Service shut it down after this year. 3 lines wide through the woods. Worst drought they'd have in decades so deep loam. Snapped chain on the 2nd grass straight under the lift with a rag doll. Was so broke I stuffed my chain in my Intense Grassroots Team Issue XC jersey pocket & kept going. Assumed it was over but like everyone else, passed 4 or 5 guys. Big giant 44 tooth. 4" White Bros DH 110 fork w/ bent stanchions and motor oil from...

Jesse did Tag stages cycling though... Don't see how he would run their power meters on a Sram crank on the other hand. Stages made their own carbon NDS crank and aluminium cranks weren't equipped with power meters as the shape of them is not suitable for a power meter. With the rumored holed crank coming it makes it even worse. I do suspect we could see the dub spindle power meter from Sram (Apex? Rival?) crossing over to MTB besides the spider based quark options, but that's still a first party solution, not a Stages product.

Stages recently sold a big interest in the company to Giant, fwiw. Cycling Electronics is the dumbest market segment. The only electronics I want in mtb is Alex Rankin pointing a VX80 with a fisheye at someone flying sideways.

boozed Liked a reply to forum topic Vertical vs Horizontal rear shock?

With appropriate linkages, a given bike could be designed to feel pretty close to the same regardless of the orientation of the shock, although I get the impression (based on no experience at all) that a suspension designer given free rein tends to go for a horizontal shock, so I assume that's the simplest way to do it. Then there are other considerations such as packaging and aesthetics. Meanwhile, the Stumpjumper is unambiguously a better bike than the Stance.

BETD made an aftermarket link with a wider opening in the middle to accommodate a fox shock since the stock linkage would not. They also made a nice billet derailleur hanger for the Sunday which I have as well.
