I don't remember which article it was in, but one of them stated that this 'effectively eliminates the need for Super Boost'... I'm curious to see what happens with that and if the companies with Super Boost bikes feel the same.

this model is mostly supposed to replace the "regular" epic, it has a bit less travel and is more xc race oriented. Epic Evo will stay pretty much the same for the next year except some small refinements

Can't see anything showing up from there just yet. Seeing it is Release Tuesday* today, it seems logical to wait a while. *Releases today include: - Canyon Neuron - SRAM Transmission - SRAM Code-levers - Level 4-pot - Cane Creek Wings - Guerilla Gravity bike lineup - TRP Evo drivetrains.. Phew

Now with all this new SRAM transmission news, I think the real news for most of us that don't want to buy the XO or XX versions, is when are they releasing the GX version?!

unbreakable they say..... hold my beer. How come some days it seems like there is no new releases, then all these companies drop their gear on the same day. Say for instance the TRP driveline, holy shit release it last week or something. Now all you see on all the outlets is "the eagle has landed" etc etc, just bad timing and a probably great product has it's thunder stolen by a GigaCorp with much more to spend on marketing.

To be honest I noticed the TRP stuff much more than if it was released a week ago. A week ago it would have been 'nice, I wonder what Sram will put out'. Now it's like 'TF is Sram smoking with these prices and features, TRP looks like an utter win compared to this'.

If this new XX chain is even more durable than the current model, that's an easily justifiable expense. SRAM's higher end chains are insanely durable.

re: compatibility, i just added a photo of the cassettes side by side. the orig X01 driver body sticks out just slightly compared to XX. may be why can't run new cassette on UDH. jonny is gonna try wheel with new cassette in UDH to find out. stay tuned

It does tuck into the frame more than the previous wildly expensive derailleur and still uses the override clutch feature to move when it contacts something. Should hopefully mean less derailleur strikes than before!

I’ve struck the derailleur a good number of times at both the local enduro race I did and at the CA Enduro series in Ensenada I raced this past weekend. No hiccups with shifting and no broken parts!

Even the Ohlins, and I think everyone else in the bike world, has a base valve on the piston as well. It doesn't have to recirulate every single drop of oil to be called "twin-tube". In fact, having a base valve is great way to do what it says: set up a base-level amount of damping, that can then be adjusted with the mid-valves. And real adjustments of mid- and high-speed oil flows because of the amount of oil recirculating, not just closing off the bleed orifices like on a mono-tube inline shock. So either everything is a hybrid, or...

The TTX also has elements of a mono tube damper as well..

X2 and dhx2 should probably be considered hybrid dampers as they have elements of both monotube and twin tube design due to having a base valve in the compression piston as well as circulating oil via the twin tubes too.

Incorrect. DPX2 is definitely a twin-tube design: the damper shaft (that holds the base valve and connects damper body to the reservoir) is twinned, and oil recirculates through the reservoir/mid valves to/from the damper body and back. This means the (adjustable) resi/mid valves can have a more powerful effect because a large amount of oil is [re]circulating through them, and the (fixed) base valve doesn't have to handle all the non-shaft-displacment oil flow. On a mono-tube with a reservoir, only shaft-displaced oil goes through those resi/mid valves, and that smaller flow through the mids with the accompaning massive flow through...

I'd guess that 90% of shocks are monotube. My Integer strut is a monotube, I believe all EXT, Push, and most Fox, Rockshox are monotube (I think the exceptions are X2, DHX2 and Vivid. Do they still make Vivids?). Twin-tubes aren't intrinsically superior to monotubes, just a different way to solve the problem. Most of the named technologies are ways to facilitate tuning, not necesarrily advantageous just by being included. The tune has to be appripriate to the bike, rider and usage.
