Seriously. I calculated between 3,500 and 4,000 miles on an XTR cassette - it moved across a few bikes so I had to total up the miles on it. The wear life on them is extremely long.

Are these "worn out in less than 200 miles" XTR cassettes in the room with us right now? They can creak, especially he earliest ones, but I've put thousands of miles on these and don't find they wear differently than any other cassette.

Pretty much all the frame manufacturers moved to a 55mm chainline ahead of transmission’s release. SRAM pushed their cassette outboard, so it pretty much all comes out in the wash. But it fucked things for older components. Newer frames, for the most part, are requiring a crankset based around the 55 chainline, so now if the cassette isn’t pushed outboard...

Re: upcoming Shimano updates—I’ll be very curious to see whether they follow SRAM’s lead on pushing the cassette outboard for a 55mm chainline. I wish SRAM hadn’t done it to begin with, but now that the toothpaste is out of the tube, everyone else kind of needs to do it too, no?

I asked ChatGPT what Sesame Seed was talking about and to be okay with being brutally honest and distasteful if it wants. Enjoy: This comment seems to be a convoluted attempt at drawing parallels between professional bike racing and motorsports, particularly Formula 1, but it’s a jumbled mess of loose associations and misplaced terminology. Let’s break it down brutally: 1. Chain Drive Skepticism : The commenter kicks off with skepticism about recent changes to bike racing due to “chain drive,” but gives no real details or context for what exactly they are skeptical about. It feels like they are grasping...

my guess is if yeti really wanted to go away from the switch-infinity link they would change to their already existing sixfinity system from the ebike and DH-proto. seems to work really well and doesn‘t need a fox branded part.

This is not a rant but rather an appreciation post for the kind of subtle yet devastating insults the greater UK populace is capable of, like this one here. As an American if I tried to pull this off it'd sound weak as hell

Does the "purist reason" include not wanting to spend the extra $3k+ on the eMTB? Don't answer that, let's just move on.

While I do agree with you, I do agree with IceIceBaby more. Only from the standpoint of comparing this bike to the rest of the market. If people want to buy this new gen frame, then good for them. But it kind of blows my mind that Pivot decided to stay so conservative with its changes, especially in comparison to the rest of the market. It just looks meh.

No offense to Chris Cocalis and the Pivot team, but it really always was just about Pivot being a bunch of weirdos. Not even joking: The real reason Pivot started using 157 Superboost on the 2017 Switchblade was to be able to fit a 27,5x2.8" plus-size tire into a frame with extremely short chainstays, while also having a front derailleur. That's the real reason. Because in 2017 they still thought plus tires, short chainstays and front derailleurs were the future of mountainbiking.

It's nice to be able to move things around if you break something.... I only have as many wheelsets as I have bikes and when I break a wheel it's nice to still have a choice of what bike to ride, even if the wheels mismatch. Per your Betamax point: with the privilege of hindsight, it's pretty easy to see that we were just fine without Betamax, even if it was a marginally better product. Technology still progressed and we didn't all throw away our new VHS tapes and players right after buying them. I'd be happy if 157 went...

Workers in China, Vietnam, etc who by their gained welding skills stand over those hydroformed tubes and weld them each day for few hundred dollars into bicycle may not be human to you, while guy putting glue in a lug and then tube in that lug may be human to you, But, yes, this weird world has always been like this.

Looks like a perfect revision (I see the V2.1 rebuild kit gets the revised midcap and SKF seal). My V2 post has been an absolute dud, like clockwork, every 25-30 rides it needs a rebuild kit thrown at it. Constantly pushes grease past the seal, excessive rotational play and the midcap constantly works its self loose (which you cannot tighten down much or it causes the post to return slower). See if the V2.1 rebuild kit makes any marginal improvement before I get rid of it.
