While we’re on the topic of suspension gimmicks, is there anything in the vicinity of System 2 from Motion Instruments? BYB is too expensive for how I’m bumbling down the trails, and Shockwiz doesn’t work on my bike (Öhlins fork and coil shock). Don’t think anyone near me is doing rentals or setup days either. System 2 would have been perfect in terms of ease of setup and relatively low price compared to other options but never came to be.

Kids, make sure you understand the gradient of the trail you are riding that day too so you can make sag adjustments based on likely weight distribution changes due to gradient variances. Spend 1-2 hours on bike setup/prep. Ride ~4-5 laps of 3-5 minutes each (total ride time 12-25 minutes). Spend 2 hours analyzing data, posting strava, posting grams, posting trailforks, posting youtubes, arguing with netbangers. Sit back, soak in all the WINNING. This is where the argument for measuring at the wheel comes from - you are correct when looking at % sag at the wheel, but the change in rate through the stroke means you have an inversion of % shock stroke used vs % of wheel travel used. Ie on a progressive bike, 25% shock sag might equal 30% wheel travel and 75% at the shock is 70% at the wheel. But on a more linear bike 30% at the shock might be 25% at the wheel.

Setting sag is not that deep, I've done this with measuring the shock sag and just looking up what sag that is at the axle using a linkage model on the computer (cost 0€).

No, we haven’t been measuring sag wrong. Any method of measuring sag that is repeatable is an acceptable way to measure sag. As it is something that must be tuned as opposed to setting to a specific percentage, being able to repeatably measure sag is the most important thing. You can do this seated and measuring at the shock just fine. If someone wants to measure it with a whole bunch of kit that’s fine, but telling everyone they are wrong and do it wrong is silly. My current enduro setup is air rear and hybrid air and coil front. Works well. My dh bike is coil rear and air front. So long as the spring and damper are working well together I’m not bothered by what kind of spring it is. I’ve killed as many air shocks as I have coil shocks in the last 10 years.

The angle the clevis connects to the rear triangle is definitely weird, but if I remember correctly esker uses a DW design called Orbit or something so I doubt the side loading was completely ignored. Correction : the platform is called Orion suspension, marginally more pretentious
