3/27/2024 5:19pm With all the sales going on (Specialized Status frame + shock for $750, for instance), I've been worried that bikes are getting too affordable. When I show up at the Corner Canyon trailhead to ride IMBA blues with the lads, I need my long travel enduro bike to be more expensive than the other mid-level engineers and managers. I hope this ochain uses electronics and accelerometers to "know" when you're pedaling or not, so it can lock out the spider while pedaling and allow the float only during coasting.

3/26/2024 1:10pm I feel this is the difference between a competition and a show.. If you sign up for a competition, you know you are spending money in hopes of making money, or at least not losing money.. But, you should also know you can have a bad day and lose money.. Kinda like going to a casino.. Maybe Crankworx can let the riders sell merchandise at the event as a way they can make money? Now, if you are doing a show like Nitro Circus and spending your money to get there and you're not being paid, then yes, you're getting...

3/17/2024 2:27pm What is the source for the claim that Pivot did not put this prototype through lab testing? Pivot certainly has the resources and the experience to lab-test any new frame and I would, frankly, be surprised if they had actually skipped that step. If true--big 'if'--it would be downright irresponsible. One thing I have heard over and over in interviews with downhill racers is that is difficult to truly replicate 'race pace' riding or bike responses in testing. I'm not fast enough to know if that's accurate or not, but if so, then testing prototypes in actual races makes some...

3/17/2024 6:18am Generally alignment fixtures and measuring equipment are placed on a large precision ground slab on a precision adjustable fixture. I've never checked if the one in my office is made of marble or another type of stone.

3/9/2024 7:28pm I wonder about this. Any bike brand has had the opportunity to notice that the way the plots of leverage ratio, antisquat, and antirise are misunderstood in a lot of settings (reviews, forums) might not be a net benefit to them or their customers. Is it transparency if it’s going to be used to build some internet doofus’ imaginary narrative about the bike? Yes and no? The most fundamental ideas at play when looking at the output of a program like linkage should include 1) it’s a model, and it’s a model of just some of the behavior of the...

3/8/2024 6:15pm Just got back from a day at Dyfi. This is the production-ready model, two were being tested by journalists in preparation for the official launch on the 12th. In person it’s absolutely striking and looks like nothing else out there. If the frame only price is reasonable then I’ve never been more tempted by a bike. (If anyone from Atherton bikes wants me to remove the photo I’m happy to, but as it’s been seen by upwards of 100 people today I’m sure it’s fine).

3/2/2024 5:43am Agreed, there are some amazing engineers that come up with creative fixes etc... but don't dare ask them to work on something. and there are amazing riders that can't turn a wrench to save their lives. And amazing wrenches that cant do any of that either. Thats not to say they don't exist but being one does not guarantee another. One of the legends of mechanics, Monkey, might not have been able to draw something in CAD or know the forces that a specific bolt would take, or the tensile strength of a material (granted he might of but...) yet...
