Bike of the Day February 8, 2025!

I didn't have a lot of time for Matt Jones before he started pumping out pre-hardline vids. Not that I had anything against him, he was just another in a sea of YouTube riders and I started to burn out from them a few years ago. But this event he really separated himself from the pack and it seemed like he massively improved the last month riding with everyone. Big fan of the vibe. Erice... Damn. Glad she's relatively ok but that's some scary shit. I hope she heals up well.

Again, do people not understand the difference between long hair (open) and a braid (closed loops)? Would you ride DH with this attached to your helmet?

If you read my post, appearances have nothing to do with what I am saying. It's about safety. A ponytail is open ended, nothing will get caught in it. A braid is 20 loops of strong hair waiting for something to catch and twist your neck. I don't appreciate you trying to rewrite my words to act as a defender of women. I never attacked anyone, so don't attack me.

Just seen Moi Moi Tv. Seriously impressed with Gracey Hemstreet, those final jumps are no joke. Valli's effort following BK was also nuts, considering what is at stake for the season coming. I get very nervous about Louise Ferguson's hair though. A long braid looks dangerous for this sport. If that gets caught on a branch to pull on her head... Big no no.

Maybe my memory stopped working but anyone knows why the switch to Alu bonded frame for the DH ? What is the rationale behind it ?

I'm guessing the audio cutting out on BK's video as he hits that drop is no mistake.

So one reason why I'm hesistant to share breakages of bikes online is that stuff sticks around forever.....I worked for a Yeti dealer at that time when the "pre production" frames had thin chainstays which cracked very easily. But it was just that very small number of initial bikes, I think we sold 2 SB6's from the batch and yeah they broke but the dozens that followed were fine in that regard (not perfrect bikes but the chainstays were actually fixed). But that reputation definitely stuck with Yeti which is a shame since it was such a small number of...

I am sooo impressed with Sam Hill, honestly thought it was more of a media stunt for him to be there. Eating my hat, that man is STILL one bad ass rider!

To be clear... I fully agree the huge gap jumps are very dangerous, sketchy, etc. That is what is scaring the riders. Not the difficulty of the course or even all but maybe that one drop. Bernard said as much in his video the other day--implying the course was easy except for the huge gaps. "It's easier than last year, It's a race course with huge jumps on it". I have no issues with riders spending time getting towed into the huge dangerous gaps, etc. What I'm saying is that the rest of the course becomes 'easy' for the worlds...

Who else thinks Greg won't make it all season without hoping on a bike for a race, even if just for giggles?

I know he's an icon of the sport, but he has only been in one WC final since 2023, and that was at the first race in 2023. He's barely made it into the top 50 in semis most races. He's an icon, but sports progress.

Orbea taking a step back from headset cable routing is a bigger deal to me than their DH bike! I was one click from ordering a Wild, but after seeing the heaset in the flesh and reading the horrendous reports on forums I just couldn't do it. They quite litterally have the worst headset routing implementation (knockblock that breaks and knocks your spacers out, dedicated spacers + dedicated stem, need to disconnect your brake hose to get rid of all that stuff and mount an adaptor for a regular stem, horrendous looking cable angles to get into the headset no...

The news "leaked" almost a year ago but you can find comments that it happened well before then. Can't blame you for missing it though, OneUp seems intent on keeping it quiet so they can trick consumers into thinking they're just 29 nice guys up in Squamish and your money is all staying locally.
