5/23/2026 6:18am No, but they implement other restrictions with speed cameras, average speed cameras, chicanes, speed bumps and other traffic “calming” measures. The biggest issues is and always will be a lack of education/mentoring… and also our protection/enforcement agencies being stripped back by centralised government, so they can’t do anything anyway. Anything that does happen as a result is normally a kneejerk decision that rarely has a positive longterm impact. There are 2 new generations getting into riding now. Those of us that rode in the 90s and 00s were the prime gen that grew up and established it all. The current...

5/23/2026 6:17am Thats exactly the same response that the equine/hiking/hunting crowd had when mtb first started. The same from Skiers when snowboarding became a thing. “NIMBY”

5/23/2026 6:17am For me its not a huge issue. It'd be fun climbing otherwise impossible climbs but with that much power i don't think youre going very far even on a 800w battery. Im more concerned with servicing them, customer care, and that skinny battery. Bosch may make more sense on all those possible issues. Rebuildable and great supply network and the bosch battery is well protected. Avinox is still an unknown quantity. I'd love to have a skinny battery , and down tube, and run a triple clamp fork but the battery casing is giving me red flags. Maybe its fine...

5/23/2026 6:17am The amount of power you use is a choice and is totally tuneable. No one ever criticises the power of cars or motorbikes but even the shittest car can break the speed limits…. The end user is responsible and culpable for how they use/abuse it. Then we get on the hot topic of guns… whether you like them or not it’s the person that decides to pull the trigger. I appreciate this is a sore point in the US but there are fair comparisons here in how these things are regulated and governed and how much freedom of choice you...

5/23/2026 6:16am Hot take: I agree with them. Keep the 20mph mode? 700 watts, 1200 watts, it's a non issue. Bikes with throttles can be an issue for <20mph, but DJI doesn't make one.

5/23/2026 6:16am Faced with criticism regarding the power output of its latest motor system, Avinox has recently put out the following statement (which is essentially the same messages they provided in our forum hotseat on e-bike power a few months ago): ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In mountain biking, power is often misunderstood. For some, higher motor output raises concerns about safety, trail impact, or component wear. For Avinox, power is not about excess, but about possibility. Power can help more people ride farther, climb steeper, and tackle terrain that might otherwise be out of reach. Our approach to power is rooted in a simple principle...

5/20/2026 6:14am I'm away to Morzine next month and I'm debating whether to take my ~2014 Giro Cipher helmet or newish Fox Proframe. The Giro is a full on DH helmet that has mostly sat in the cupboard over its lifetime, and feels noticeably sturdier, heavier, and more padded than the Proframe, but does not have Mips. The Proframe is newer and has Mips, but is obviously a much more lightweight helmet in its design. I'm leaning towards the Giro, but I'm curious as to what people's thoughts are on what the safer helmet actually would be. They both meet ASTM-5 but...

5/20/2026 6:17am Im certainly not planning to bin off my rarely used 2018 fox rampage pro carbon. Bloody lovely helmet and the best fitting I've owned. Feels very sturdy, more like a motorcycle helmet. I actually binned an original model proframe this morning, pre that stupid twiddly adjustor. Not used it for years as i replaced it with a leatt gravity 4.0...

5/19/2026 11:37am I know there’s a difference because it’s harder to control with bikes, but why is it such a big deal here when people unlock their hardware? I can drive a car faster than the speed limit, too. It’s the driver’s responsibility to follow the rules. If they don’t, there are penalties—or they lose their insurance coverage. It’s true, though, that we as humanity are apparently generally unable to exercise restraint at the moment. I think it’s illusory to believe that anyone will regulate themselves. As a personal experience: I still think my Unno with M1 is great. I don’t need...

5/19/2026 11:36am The unlocking market has been a thing since e-bikes were a thing. Strangely seems a lot less popular on this side of the pond but you can buy a speed-limit delimiter for every single system out there already.

5/2/2026 11:18am Well he is the champ for his country and has an actual physical disability verses just a guy pulling a bit of a “look at me”. Again I’m not even mad the hardtail guy is there. I just think he should’ve borrowed a buddy’s bike and gave it an actual go.

5/1/2026 1:08pm I’m all for the hardtail cat (whether real or just a bro title) at the local races. Maybe not World Cup Dh though? I’m all for accessibility and keeping the world cups somewhat participatory for young/obscure country racers. But not sure showing up with a hardtail is cool. If you gotta ride a 10 year old trailbike it will be way more competitive and probably cheaper than that thing. huge props to that Indonesian champ in the wyn interview. That’s the type of character this sport should really make an effort not to push out.

4/28/2026 10:45pm Too little too late. And IMHO they are tackeling the wrong points. Althought I know why they do these things, because this is what Bosch can do with software. On the Hardware side they appear to be very slow-responding.
